my challenge to you is to make an ion powered (and only ion) rocket/plane go into orbit!

a screenshot when it is on the mission

a screenshot of the map showing it's in orbit

Just a heads up, many challenges have been centered around this and It's already been proven possible.

Might wanna check the other challenges before making a new one, but don't stress though, we were all new at some point

I believe the only thing that hasn't yet been accomplished is a SSTO ion-powered craft with no dropped parts (e.g. stages), in stock aero (it's been done in FAR). See GoSlash27's Ion Glider Collier Trophy challenge.

Actually, I accomplished that as well. It required infinigliding,though.

The only thing that hasn't yet been accomplished is SSTO stock without infinigliding.

Reach for orbit with an ion glider!

That's the last one I'm aware of.

6 of us reached orbit, 2 of us reached Minmus and I also made a stop at the Mun.

I believe all of us used at least 2 control surfaces.

None of us did it SSTO.

For the cheaty Eve challenge, I produced a practical manned ion SSTO infiniglider. It failed on Eve, but was successful on Kerbin.

For the easier ion challenge, I produced a staged glider that escaped kerbin soi.

It's all about the terms of the challenge. Ion to orbit has been done repeatedly. What has not yet been done is the holy grail of ions: SSTO from Kerbin, stock physics, stock parts, no glitch cheats, ion power only. I currently hold the record for that, and it ain't orbit.
