HALP, my kerbal is stuck.

Recommended Posts

Now, I'm not sure if this should be a bug report or not, but my kerbal is basically stuck in between the main body of the ship and some strapped on fuel tanks on the side. He can't EVA pack out, and he can't move. Are there and commands or cheats I can use to get him out? Note, I am landed on mun, and all the base are all belong to me.

-EDIT-I just reverted.

Have you tried time warping? It might work.

Time warp sometimes works but be advised that there is no greater force in KSP than a Kerbal doing an animation. It's possible he might rip the ship apart coming out (seriously). Sometimes just leaving the ship, going to the space center / tracking center / back to the ship will get him out, too. But in either case, it's quite possible the Kerbal is already dead (counted as debris instead of an EVA), in which case nothing you do will matter.

Other options include standing the ship on its nose and letting gravity pull him out the way he went in. But if you can do this, it means the Kerbal wasn't your only way to control the ship. Either you've got another Kerbal aboard or a probe core. So if you've got that, you can just fly home with the Kerbal still stuck in place. Or, if you can decouple the part the Kerbal is wedged behind, that should do the trick, too. Maybe you'll have to send a rescue mission then, but it should work. If you can't decouple the wedging part, you can shoot it off with Whack-a-Kerbal, again probably requiring a rescue mission.

Worst case, the Kerbal is already dead anyway, in which case no need to worry about him. If he's not dead, you can't decouple the part, have no other means to control the ship, and don't want to use Whack-a-Kerbal, you can always send another ship, have the Kerbal from that ship fly the 1st ship home, and save the trapped Kerbal that way.

If you don't want to destroy the ship but are looking for "cheats," you can edit your save file. Make a copy first and use a plain text editor like notepad (do NOT use word or wordpad). Search for your kerbal's name, then scroll down a little where it says "LAT" or "LON". Pick one of those numbers and add 0.001 to it's value (in other words, increase the lat or lon slighly). This will move him a bit away so that when you reload, he won't be stuck in the ship anymore.

Cheers,

-Claw

Nvrm, everyone. I just reverted because I got nick of seeing a kerbal hanging by his helmet. Timewarp did bumpkin and moving only got him wedge deeper. That's an hour of work lost, but w/e. You can't get everything.
