VTOL in stable hover

Recommended Posts

Jeb wanted to show the visiting dignitaries how good the new plane was, given the problems they had experienced with earlier models and the misgivings that previous failures had fuelled. So during his demonstration flight, he decided to climb out of the cockpit to clean the bugs off the canopy whilst in hover mode, leaving no one at the controls.

Officially he got a bit of a telling off for his stunt, but unofficially the developers were slapping him on the back for showing just how reliable the plane was.

Well that's just a tease. I'm working on a VTOL and the best I can get it to do is backflip on the runway. I gotta tweak the center of mass because it's way too back end heavy.

VTOLs love balancing engines (have 2 engines in the middle of the craft, 1 up the front and one at the rear) it makes balancing the thrust during flight much easier as well if your crafts centre of mass moves around.

VTOLs also like to have the fuel tanks right over the centra of mass, makes balancing a lot easier.

An example of a VTOL with balancing engines.

If you want to take a look at it for ideas on your VTOL go for it, making it gave me a lot of knowledge for future planes and what not.
