Agreed, I can believe it taking a while. It's the decisions really - what crater is a biome, what isn't, what other features might you use, where do you draw boundaries, and so on. While a ten-minute scribble with the mouse would work, it would be deeply unsatisfactory.

He did mention earlier on Twitter that biomes are coming to all planets anyway. It's not a secret.

If we get more biomes then we`ll get lots more science overall from the system which means we will have to either reduce science rewards or increase science cost to get nodes.

Well this is KSP. So bigger, better, and more boosters. Add even more parts and expand the tech tree further.
