3 Questions on KSP (VAB Fog & Station Tunnels, Launch Complexes)

Recommended Posts

I just have 3 questions, some place on the Forum I have see an answer to an issue that I’m now having but I can’t find the thread, the issue is on the ground looking out of the VAB towards the Launch Complex, there is a dense fog between the VAB & the Launch Complex, I have tried searching the forum a number of times without any luck, I’m hoping someone can point me towards that thread.

My second question is can I use a fuel tank as a tunnel in a space station such the Docking Adapter that NASA used for the Apollo Soyuz Test Project, if I can does that mean I transfer the Crew from point A to Point B if I use a mod like CrewXfer?

The third question I have is about the Launch Complexes, I know about the one at KSC, but what the story about the Second Launch Complex I think located towards the Northern Pole of Kerbin, was it just there for looks or was it used in an earlier version of the game?

Thanks,

1. I haven't heard of that one, I'm afraid.

2. The forthcoming version 0.25 includes the ability to move Kerbals between different parts of a ship without EVA. It does not depend on using any particular parts as connectors or having any passable route. Crew Transfer and Crew Manifest are similar, as I understand it, in that they do not rely on a logical route through the ship in order to move crew. Ship Manifest, on the other hand, can use the additional mod Connected Living Spaces, which tells you which parts can be crossed by Kerbals - a fuel tank would not be acceptable, as it has fuel in it, a fuselage part is fine.

3. There are some old threads on the forum about KSC West (as it is generally known) but no official story about it. There are several-to-lots of "Easter Eggs" (fun hidden things) on Kerbin and, to a lesser extent, the other bodies. If you want to make use of KSC West and other bases on Kerbin check-out the mod Kerbinside. For other bodies use Extraplanetary Launchpads.

1: a fog? impossible you must have a bug just try and re-install ksp. but no thread

2: its up coming in .25 but sorry you can't use a fuel tank as a tunnel unless you use panels or wings then you eva the kerbals then yeah

3: some say it shows signs of multiplayer and its used by the demo version as i know plus it used to be the old KSC

The view out the door of the VAB shows "fog" and "clouds". However, these clouds don't actually exist, so the view out the door cannot be entirely real. But OTOH, it's not a projected image on a solid wall because vehicles drive through it. So I'm thinking the doorway is blocked by a force field. The vehicles can drive through it but this causes ripples in the force field. These ripples cause glare from the lights inside the VAB, giving the illusion of clouds and fog outside.

Yes. And apparently 0.25 will let you transfer crew around without needing EVA, so you'll no longer need the mod.

NOTE: There's another mod called "Connected Living Space" which disallows transfers through certain parts deemed not to have tunnels or whatnot. So if you use CLS in conjunction with CrewXfer, Crew Manifest, etc., you probably will NOT be able to move crew through a fuel tank. I don't know if the 0.25 takes this into account or not.

Thanks,

The other space center isn't at the pole, it's WNW of KSC just north of the western part of the desert. If you leave KSC heading about 285, you should arrive in the general vicinity. Look for a mountain range just north of the desert with a north-pointing cul-de-sac valley in its southern face. The other space center is in that valley.

IIRC KSC West was in a K shaped valley that could be spotted from LKO. A trip may have to be made to verify if the K valley still exists.

You can go to Kerbalmaps.com, get the Kerbin map showing (it does by default), and in the upper left, check the layer that says "Space Centers". Shows you right were it is with enough detail to see the cul-de-sac valley and its relation to the desert. Also gives you precise lat-lon
