Saved the Computer, Lost the Car

If anyone remembers this thread (http://kerbalspaceprogram.com/forum/index.php?topic=9093.0), I was having computer problems, but I finally managed a factory reset and it runs great now. However, last evening my car decided to die. I mean really died, as in, repairs worth more than what the car is worth. Today, looked around for new cars, found several promising deals, then right before I got one I wasn\'t sure I would be happy with, a great car suddenly appears at about the right price. It is a Kia Spectra hatch back, five speed manual. I love driving it. 8)

Edit: Pictures!

Not sure if these are stock....

:D

I get to drive my mother\'s Toyata Yaris Sedan, 5 speed manual as well, most of the time.

Love it to death with only two (small) grievances against it.

1) Wiper speed selections are Fast (4s period), FAST (0s period) or BLAZING FAST (0s delay, overdrive)

2) I want speakers with higher quality. They\'re great speakers for a car, but I\'m a bit of an audiophile and I find the bass to be deep, but not super detailed.

But basically anything manual transmission is awesome to drive.

About two weeks ago, my dad won a 1990 Honda Accord, in light blue, from a raffle [school fundraiser]. It\'s technically 'my' car, but I can\'t drive a stickshift :(

LLLEEEEEAAAAARN!!

It\'s so much fun once you manage it. Starting out is tough, but it\'s very possible to learn and once you do you\'ll never want to drive automatic again.

Plus, it gives you bragging rights over non-stick driving losers XD

If you\'d like, I can send you a pm with general instructions on how to learn.

I tried teaching my old gf how to drive stick once (before she could even drive :P) and she learned it in one shot. I was impressed, and I think it had a lot to do with how I described what\'s happening when you push the clutch, shift gears and what not.

It\'s not that you have to know exactly what\'s happening, but at least having an idea of what\'s going on, or being able to understand it from an analogy, really helps give you an idea of what you\'re trying to accomplish

-snip-

If you need a a comparison on how easy it is, it is about as easy (actually I think it was easier) than learning to ride a bike.

I had only had about 2 hours driving a stick five years ago before I got this car. Made two laps around the lot, and took it out on the rode for a test drive. Aside from some slight timing errors between first and second gear, I had absolutely no problems.

I\'ve only killed it twice, once when a police officer pulled out in front of me and I slammed on the brakes (forgot to hit the clutch). And once getting going again because I was going up a fairly steep hill.

That car must be fun SteevyT.

I wish I could drive... (you can tell my age somewhere else, you might\'ve seen in in certain threads...)

Though, a manual is good to save $1000 (here in Canada) but on a certain Canadian driving show, oh man you should\'ve seen how many cars they killed with a manual. Right when the last driver went, they ran out of cars so they gave her a question: 'What would you buy, a manual or an automatic?'. She answered right.

automatic

Also, how much was the car Steevy?

Man I wish a had a manual, I never driven one but I\'m a fast learner just give me the car a teacher and a 15 minutes and I\'ll be shifting that thing smoothly. Of course I would need a car too but then I\'ll a job. Stupid economy and me being 16.

It was $7,500ish after tax. It is a 2006 with 100,000 miles on it. I think they said the car was on the lot two or three days when I got it. someone else had just traded it in.

My only gripe about it is the engine doesn\'t dump RPM\'s fast enough between first and second. Shifting smoothly between first and second is actually harder for me than getting going. Going from a four speed automatic about the same size (but six years older) it is a ton of fun to drive.

Driving stick shifts are fun (I haven\'t driven a powered one, just one in tow around the lawn, but I know how to drive a stick shift). I can\'t wait to drive one.

Front wheel drive is ew.

I completely agree

No, but with the snow we usually get, rear wheel drive would not be the safest thing.

I\'m in the exact same boat as you. My first vehicle was a Dodge Dakota given to me in the midst of winter.

I had to drive everyday to our local college for swim practice with my gf at the time.

The brakes were bad.

No Anti-Lock brakes.

The tires were bald.

Rear Wheel drive.

>_>

<_<

I think my father was trying to kill us.

Or give me the perfect opportunity to do donuts in the always empty, always snow covered parking lot :D

I also almost rear-ended a Cadillac going downhill because the truck didn\'t stop lol.

Luckily it drifted towards the right and I missed him by inches

No Anti-Lock brakes.

The only rear-wheel drive vehicles I\'ve driven are trucks and tractors. My first car was front wheel drive, no ABS (but it did have air conditioning for a couple years). This car is front-wheel drive, but as far as I\'m aware it still doesn\'t have ABS. ABS freaks me out a little though.

Yeah, the only car I\'ve driven with ABS working is my mothers (the yaris that I drive now).

First time it kicked in I thought something broke horribly.

I know what ABS does, but it felt and sounded like two serrated metal plates were being clashed against each other\'s edge.

It\'s a horrible feeling even knowing that it\'s normal. It just doesn\'t feel right :l Kinda like your pushing the brake too far into the frame or something. It\'s really bizarre in this car.

Huh, similar thing when I drove my mom\'s RAV4. ABS kicked in, and the brake pedal went right to the floor.
