New LENR report.

I just saw this over at NSF, and figured I'd repost this here. This is mostly gibberish to me, but it sounds promising as long as it's not a fraud(it's 'cold fusion' so probably a fraud :P ). Thoughts, opinions, cupcakes?

'Michael Nelson, Alternate Discipline Leader for SLS Propulsion at NASA’s Propulsion Research and Development Laboratory, notes, “I was impressed with the work that was done to insure the measurements claiming a 3.2 to 3.6 COP were accurate. Aside from the fact that this could not have been produced from any known chemical reaction, the most significant finding to me is the evidence of isotopic shifts in lithium and nickel. Understanding this could possibly be the beginning of a whole new era in both material transmutations and energy for the planet and for space exploration. This is an exciting time to live in and this is an exciting technology to witness come about.â€Â'

The real interesting here is the isotope changes who is confirmed by the Swedes.

Isotope change require an nuclear reaction, yes its possible to cheat but only by replacing materials who is possible but high chance of getting caught and ruin the show.

And yes Rossie's behavior scream scam more than an email from Nigeria.

I'm honestly interested in what the physicists in here think about that.

I guess it was beaten and debunked to death already in this forum, in a time where i wasn't part - but i really would see this "paper" discussed and at least theoretically debunked/confirmed. I'm a dumbass if it comes to numbers, so the paper actually doesn't really make sense to me (i'm more muscle than brain, if you want) - to me it reads like that they tested a stick, which puts out 1,5 mwatts over 32 days. Which would be quite impressive.

Yeah.. I'm a simpleton, and i do understand that Rossi has "SCAM! FRAUD!" written all over his forehead, but yet a tiny bit of "what if" remains to me.

This is the thread from nasaspaceflight.com. Hope that helps.

The Widom Larsen theory seems to be plausible, much more than usual cold fusion stuff, so much that NASA looks into it, and could explain the results.

The idea is that plasmons somehow cause electrons to be absorbed by proton, forming super low energy neutrons, that tend to react with pretty much anything that's around.

But if there was a small device able to output MW continuously, the guy wouldn't have to try so hard to justify himself.

A 'breakthrough' in LENR happens about every year, and nothing comes out of it.

I respectfully disagree. IMO a great deal has come out of this research. 20 years ago, LENR devices were so flaky and the results so subtle most researchers believed positive results were due to measurement error. Today, they're reliable and predictable, and best of all use cheap nickel instead of expensive palladium.

I'll admit this paper surprised me. I too had dismissed Rossi as a fraud, due to his secretive behavior.

Today, they're reliable and predictable

As much as I know, there is only one organization that builds them, and many people think it's a fraud.

If/when NASA or some other reputable organization builds such a device and make it work, then we will be able to say LENR is a thing.
