My first (successful) speed plane!

Hey guys, been wanting to make a really fast plane and see how fast I can get it to go while staying below 60KM. Managed to get to 6km/s at an altitude of 40km.

Some pictures! :)

Anyone else made a faster plane before? Would love to see as I'd like to make improvements to mine!

Gee how did you manage to stay out of space?

I have done speed planes using air hoggers with turbo jets and i seem to top out at a sub orbit doing around 2300m/s, will have an apple aps and peri aps of around 40km at that speed, or you using FAR or NEAR?

never tried a speed demon using them.

Nope I'm not using FAR. I was however using unlimited fuel just to test pure speed, I'm sure there's no way I could achieve that speed while carrying the fuel required to do so (Which would mean a launch from a spacecraft into low-orbit. With enough electric thrusters and solar panels I've managed do keep a stable 3.5-4km orbit around kerbin which was interesting until I got to the dark side of the planet. As far as I can remember I made the lightest thing I could using some fuselage parts from a mod (cant remember the name, comes with Mk1/mk2/mk3 pieces etc.) And the biggest engine I could slap on it. The struts creating the curve are just for stability and to make breaking the atmosphere look cool when it happens :D

Yeah i have always done launches from the ground and carried enough fuel for a lap or so :P

throw enough air intakes on a plane and turbo jets will work at 35-40km lol

this will do around 5 laps of kerbin at 2300m/s, best i seem to be able to do with the sp+ parts, cant seem to get enough air intakes on a smaller plane.
