Spaceplane plus and mk2

Hi,

Spaceplane plus is now part of vanilla ksp and that's great (I loooove this mod), but for god sake, stop calling those parts mk2, they're not :

MK2 is awesome for plane crafting, and so is spaceplane plus, but spaceplane plus is definitely not mk2.

I propose calling that sp2, or mk2+, or mk2.2 :sticktongue:

Spaceplane + is NOT part of stock KSP.

Porkjet's spaceplane + parts were modified for the new Mk2 parts - that is, officially, what the lozenge-shaped parts are called.

Mk1 are the 1.5m aircraft parts (including the 'inline Mk1 cockpit', previously known as Mk2), Mk3 are the 'shuttle' shaped parts that still aren't much use (but are also scheduled for replacement).

They are Mk2, because Mk2 is what SQUAD decides it is when they design the stock parts. The Mk2 specification was changed in the 0.25 update, so "Mk2" now denotes the SP+-style parts, which happen to be symmetrical now. Any discrepancies with old mods that have old-style Mk2 parts merely mean that the mod is out of date.

I know exactly what you are talking about, i love the mk3 cockpit and was very unhappy to find out it is useless now.

They changed the SP+ parts, they are a different shape than they are in my .24.2, i believe in .24.2 SP+ parts are uneven surfaces top and bottom, for .25 they made them symmetrical top and bottom.

they should have left both options of mk2 fuselage, the new ones hold different amounts of fuel.

Also another beef i have, the FL-T800 tank holds more LF/O than the mk2 fuselage, wtf?

the plane parts have always had an obvious size/capacity discrepancy with rocket parts. this at best qualifies as a minor balance issue to sort out much much later

regarding leaving both options, that's ridiculous and would lead to a crazy cluttered parts menu. to be honest it seems to me, from your previous posts and this one, that you're just upset you have to redesign your crafts

I do not see how leaving the old mk2 liquid fuel fuselage for earlier in the tech tree would make things bad.

Because they are redundant and they would clutter up the parts list, they offer no advantages apart from they are already there.

The feeling of progression is something lol, they could have put the older parts earlier on in the tech tree so you could unlock them and make planes, then later on unlock better parts and make better planes, if that makes sense, i know i normally play with multiple part mods so that i can do that.

sure in sandbox they make clutter, but so do half of the rocket parts i don't use in the SPH and vice versa.

so your solution is to add to the clutter?

well I have several sstos using the old parts, mainly the shuttle cockpit like the 3 man crews, and now I got to rebuild them since the new mk 3 to 2 adapter now has oxy in it making my planes unbalanced.

I have played a little with the new cockpits but they aren't usable for smaller craft, cannot place flaps/cannards to the nose to balance the lift forces. most of the comments I read abouthe new parts seems to lead one to need to build larger and larger craft. I prefer space planes under 20 tons most of mine are between 10 and 15 tons. I see what the community does with them but all in all I don't think I will use them.

Funnily enough I've just rebuilt the largest spaceplane in my tutorial to use the Mk2 parts. More capacity, better performance, less than half the mass. Is a four-seater at 8t any use to you?

Seems this post is becoming a "choose your side : mk2 or space plane plus", that was not the point at all :

This is mk2 :

This is space plane plus :

They don't have the same shape, they should'nt have the same name, but in the end both are a damn good job.

Your first picture is not Mk2, it's not even stock!

If your second picture is using stock parts it's not Spaceplane +, it's Mk2. If it's using Spaceplane + it's not stock.

Spaceplane+ was the same shape as the first picture. Your looking at the new stock parts which are not the same shape as Spaceplane+. The old Mk2 parts were the same shape as both B9 and Spaceplane+ but Squad decided to change that and Spaceplane+ became defunct, and B9 hasn't updated as well as a few other mods. As I said, either B9 and those other mods need to change their symmetry OR change their name to not Mk2, because that is no longer Mk2, it was in the past, it's not now. Squad created it, it's their choice to change it.
