On The Topic of Landing Gear

Recommended Posts

I've been playing since before wheels were even a thing, but since then I've always noticed the parallels between them and landing gear. Every ship below a certain size uses the tiny wheels/gear, and everything above a certain size uses the ruggedized wheels/heavy gear, while the narrow range in between use the beige balloon tires/medium gear. Except the giant wheel, which has no equivalent.

That's not a suggestion!

Maybe this image can explain better.

This is incidentally my first post (Woo!), so apologies in advance and here is a link if I messed up on the image etiquette.

Welcome to the forums! You'll find that this community is generally* very nice and helpful. I hope you enjoy your stay.

On topic: I'd really like some larger landing gear as well. Those LT-2 Landing struts just don't cut it when you need to land 100+ ton monstrosities without spamming a bunch of landing gear. Tougher and longer landing gear that could reach past the length of the NASA engines would be incredibly useful. (BTW. If anyone knows about a mod that adds such landing legs, that would be greatly appreciated)

Landing gear is ment for spaceplanes, landing legs are ment for rockets, just for clarification. Theres no real need for larger landing legs, as all the dedicated landing engines work well with the large legs right now. Adding larger legs for non landing engines is somewhat redundant. As the main purpose of landing engines is mainly their short size, among other things. So asking for landing legs for the SLS engine is crazy.

If you really need longer legs just use the long pipes to extend the length of the landing legs. If anything the game needs specalized "base" landing gear like what can be found in B9. Where the gear is super heavy duty, but short designed to keep things from laying on the side and the ground.

Now i feel with the MK3 upgrades we should get at least 1 larger sized landing gear. The current one can just be spammed, and it works but the main thing i want is higher clearence off the ground and higher impact tollerances at a cost of adding more weight. (current landing gears are weightless)

I've been a passive reader for more than a year, and found nothing but proof that this is the best community out there.

I found this mod to hit the spot, but it hasn't been updated in awhile and mod legs never seem to have the stability of stock ones.

Thanks for the image help.

I agree with MKI. I don't see bigger legs as an urgent need. Sure they would be nice for reusing boosterstages I guess. I don't like to do that l, but I know many people do.

Bigger or taller landing gears for ssto's, shuttles, etc on the other hand are something l've been waiting for a year...
