Help with Moving Research Data

Recommended Posts

Question: How can I move research data from a Mobile Processing lab on Minmus to the Space Center on Kerbin? I tried using a lander with a Command Pod Mk 1 but was told that the pod could not handle the data, so I brought the data back to the lab. I would like to avoid transmitting the data as that will result in a loss of much of the data. Is there something else that is can land on Minmus that can handle the data and bring it back to the Space Center?

Thank you for any help

AFAIK the mobile lab is the only thing that can store multiple instances of an experiment (other than a Kerbonaut), and none of the capsules allow such a thing.

So you could try to bring the lab back along with the science. Or, if you're the type of insane maverick who would even consider such a perilous mission, here's a plan that might be just crazy enough to work: collect the experiments with a balls-of-steel BadS Kerbonaut and then strap* him into a EAS-1 External Command Seat and fly back to the KSC like a baus!

This works because there are no needless frivolities such as "internal storage" or "pressurized interiors" on the EAS-1 External Command Seat and the Kerbonaut carries all the stuff in their pockets.

*EAS-1 External Command Seats do not have sissy "straps" or "seat belts".

If you can't add an experiment to a pod, it's because the identical experiment is already in the pod, e.g. "crew report from Minmus' highlands".

These duplicate reports aren't worth a lot of research, and you won't lose much (or anything, in many cases) by transmitting one copy and keeping the other for return.

This.

Also, no reason to bother with a Mobile Processing Lab whilst in the Kerbin System. At most you'll use a week to get any kind of sample from Minmus to Kerbin - and when landing the craft that contain the samples and experiments, get a healthy chunk of change back. You know, besides the science and contracts stuff, but from the vessel itself.

Now, come again if at some far-away location it might be more convenient hauling along that MPL. Just to save the return trip that can be measured in months if not years.
