Krusher-class Carrier w/ W-42 Interceptors

Hello everyone,

Next up in my line of military style space ships is one I'm very proud of, and have had a lot of fun building and playing with. Unfortunately, I have no idea what to call this bad boy, so that's where you come in! Check out the pictures and suggest a name in the comments below.

I present to you... [insert name here]-class Carrier!

This behemoth is the cutting edge in space-faring carriers.

Carries three umm..... help me name these fighters too!

With plenty of clearance on each of the 4 hangar doors, exiting and entering the carrier is a breeze.

And fighter escorts just look cool. Especially in space!

Oh, and these fighters are locked and loaded with four high-velocity missiles.

100% stock

Part count: 497(w/ fighters) ; 419(w/out fighters)

This ship is capable of flying into orbit (with infinite fuel), but it's a pain in the ass because most of the body is composed of wing parts, giving it extremely wonky flight characteristics. I recommend save file editing.

As with my Combat Command and Transport Ships, the goal for this project was to make something big and bad-ass looking without a massive part count. Not only does it look bad-ass, but it's tons of fun to play around with. And if you don't like the fighters I built, it's simple to replace them with your own design.

If you have any suggestions for a name/classification for this ship or the fighters it carries, let me know in the comments below! Also, let me know what you think about the ship in general!

Yup, this is what I had in mind. Well done! If you want variety in fighters, or SSTO replacements, I believe my "Knife" class (available at the skunkworks) would fit easily in that bay. BTW, where do yours carry the missiles?

Rune. Keep it up! Totally looks like the Invisible Hand, but that name is copyrighted I imagine. ;)

Woah, nice carrier! I always wanted to build one but never got to it. Also, I really love how you use the cargo bays in the opposite way you'd normally use them in order to make those flat hangar doors!

EDIT:

God I love blowing this thing up. You know, surprisingly, this ship is pretty resilient when it comes to SRB's, although it can't stop an armored frigate with those 80 m/s impact tolerance panels.

Looks cool, as your Python/Argo did!

Well, let´s think for a name again... What about Peleus (Pelican in Latin) for the carrier and Munin (German mythologies raven) for the fighters?

This looks very sleek! I like it. :)

Just like Frozen Heart said, most KSP warships look like bricks (mainly due to the practicality in that shape, as it is a good shock-absorbing frame that lends itself well to armored hulls), but this looks quite unique.

I like unique.

Thanks for all the positive feedback and creative names, everyone! Keep 'em coming!

Wow, this is crazy. Can't belive its stock! :)

A name that came up in my head was "The Furious Abyss". Bonus points to the person who knows where it's from ;)

seems like a warhammer reference...

Can you provide a link? I couldn't find said "knife" class. and the missiles are on the underside of the SAS "wings"

nothing makes me happier than others getting enjoyment from destroying my creations:D

looks like two bays on wither side of hole opening up and blocking the enterance. reference pic:

Yup, you got it

Just letting you know, when you thrust in space it is completely out of control because of engine positioning

yea, with the CoM and CoT so far apart, it's nearly impossible to line them in the SPH. Feel free to mess around with thrust limiters and/or add engines to get it right. Or try throttling up slowly so that the SAS can counter it.

Unbelievable. I like the bridge, I like the hangers with the working doors, I like all the little cabins. What is it like with engines above and below at the back? I'm sure if you had a setup like that you could tweak the thrust on one pair so the CoT would be inline with the CoM.

Probably. What happened was, I had the CoM and CoT lined up pretty well with the hangar empty. Then I added the fighters, but never adjusted the CoT.

Well thanks to this, I found out I never put it on the skunkworks! Fixing that now. Anyhow, here's the original thread for it. That should do, but a pic so you can get an idea at a glance:

Rune. You could fit a lot of these!

I like it! Very compact. Yet quite deadly by the looks of it.

It would be a hell of a lot of fun to fly one of those off my carrier parked in orbit, take out a target on Kerbin's surface, then fly it back to the carrier. Maybe I'll give it a shot when my fleet building fever subsides...

Yeah I just downloaded it and adding engines to the bottom makes it worse, lol. It looks cooler though. Perhaps you multiply the bridge sections by 2 and stick them on the sides?

The original design actually did have engines mounted up on the bridge, but it looked kinda goofy so I scrapped it. If you find something that works and looks good, let me know!
