0.25 Steam version will not start Mac osx 10.9.1

Recommended Posts

Hey :)

I have been trying to get my KSP to work on my Macbook Air 1,8 GHz i5 4 GB 1600 MHz DDR3 ram..

When i start the game, it opens the window, and then stops responding..

I have tried the things in the OS X thread, but nothing seems to help..

Can anyone help?

Huh. Have you been able to get it to run on other machines, or previously?

What happens if you run KSP directly? You can open the folder from Finder: Go > Go to Folder... and type in ~/Library/Application Support/Steam/SteamApps/common/Kerbal Space Program/

Then, just run KSP.app.

Try verify integrity of game cache on steam. Can't really tell you how to do that atm, seems like a data file is corrupted so the game just crashes. Steam's verify integrity of game cache will compare your local game files md5s with the server game files md5s steam really has and re-download the local files that don't match the md5s on steam's servers. Same thing happened to me on GMod, verifying the integrity of game cache worked like a charm.

Just gave that a try, and it didn't help :(

I'm trying the previous stable version of the game in a sec to see if that helps..

That didn't help.. I'm downloading win 10 preview now, and will try to run it there instead..

But i will not give up on the mac, so i will keep the post updated with some .log files and stuff if i get it to work just a little..

I'll have a look at the log when I'm back at home, but did you try to start the launcher (although I'm not sure if the Mac version has one...) first and set all settings to lowest? Window mode, fast rendering, low quality textures, sm3 shaders off, resolution down, etc. Fallback shaders on perhaps.

Just for the beginning to see if there's a problem.

@slumpie:

The log shows that only loads core KSP dlls were loaded. The game doesn't even get as far as loading any content, so changing graphical settings will not help.

@Larsen351:

When you have time, could you try the reinstall & copy/paste to another location, and then post the log from the first time you run the copy? I'd like to see how much further that got.

What I don't understand is why you're still running 10.9.1. You're missing tons of software updates, including lots of fixes and also security updates. 10.9.5 is the current Mavericks version!

Just because you're on a Mac doesn't mean you never have to update, just remember as example the SSL exploit. Actually that got fixed in 10.9.2, oh... hang on!

Could you perhaps visit this site that shows you if you're still affected or not? LINK

It's also possible that there were other bugs related to unity on 10.9.1, but Unity didn't fix this because it's no longer the current version? Who knows.

I just read about a Unity bug in 10.9.1 that resulted in immediate crashes, just because a user font cache wasn't how Unity expected it to be.

1. Fix this OS issue

2. Copy the whole KSP folder from SteamAps/Common onto your desktop or into the applications folder or so.

3. Open DiskUtility and repair permissions.

4. Start Launcher.app (next to KSP.app) and set all graphics settings to lowest, disabling everything except "fallback shaders".

5. Lanch KSP.app (without Steam) and pray.
