Pulse Jet

Recommended Posts

I originally posted a suggestion for an air-breathing rocket, but this makes much more sense.

The pulse jet would be unlocked very early in the tech tree. It would be a small, air-breathing liquid fuel engine, similar in appearance to the pulse jet used on the German V1 "Buzzbomb." It would have low thrust and efficiency, but would be very cheap and lightweight. It could be used for small liquid fuel boosters on first stages or for rocket-assisted runway takeoffs, though its main purpose would be short-term relief of my unquenchable thirst for more building variety. :P

The part itself would be 0.625 meters in diameter, fairly long, and would be radially attached. The intake would be an integral part of the engine instead of being a second part. Once activated, it would make a sound somewhat like a hippopotamus farting non-stop into an oversized kazoo. :D

What do you guys think? Discuss!

You, sir, have a fantastic way of describing things :D

On another note though I feel like, due to the low thrust/weight ratio, there wouldn't be much use for a pulse jet in a space program :P

Bahahaha! You've actually hit on one of the few things about KSP I really dislike – the sound effect for the RAPIER.

Anyway, I'd support this, though I'd suggest making it 0.625m, since that's the standard small probe diameter. It would be really useful for drones or small one/two EVA seat planes.

Yeah, I'll change it. I normally just generalize part sizes. And I think the RAPIER sounds like an elephant with the croup. :D

Can't see this ever being stock,

, they would seriously struggle to lift their own fuel and oxidiser (no reason why they can't run on liquid oxygen).

It'd be fun for small aircraft though, but I think this is one we'll have to ask the modders for.
