Jettison button for cargo bay

Recommended Posts

I think all is in the title.

As of now we all use either a radial decoupler or small docking port on the cargo bay node.

I had a problem with those in that they both eject the cargo with force or not in the right direction, the radial decoupler is also quite visible both on the spaceplane and the payload (plus since I used the cargo-hold to put battery the payload got stuck in them)

So I'm suggesting we assume the cargo to be secured by default and be jettisoned with a speed of 0 (or slowly in the right direction).

That's all.

I have been fine with docking ports so far. It moves a little bit but it's not too bad. After that I use the ship's rcs to move it downwards until I get some distance to the payload.

To me the cargo bays are too small anyway... things getting stuck is the result :(

For now: decoupler on the other side, connected to nothing but the payload, fired simultaneously. Cancels the force.

Does that work? I would think that the parent ship would be moved away from the payload by the connected decoupler, then affected again when the other decoupler strikes the back of the cargo bay.

Talking about radial decouplers, one aimed out through the open top of the bay, the other connected to the floor. Nothing to hit going up. The mothership will get some push down, but only a little due to relative mass.

To achieve this without a crazy contraception I only see the docking port, since the radial decoupler is relatively strong. But the docking port usual placement send the payload inside the carbo bay as stated, even if it's not enough to to any damage.

Now, trying to put the docking port vertically is... visually messy. Hence my suggestion to have a jettison alike system for the cargobay.

It seems like the issues with using the decouplers (radial or stack) is the magnitude of their ejection forces. It would probably be easier to make the decoupler ejection forces Tweakable in stock than redesign the cargo bays.

I believe the "Tweakable everything" mod already has this functionality.
