Exploding Launchpad: The S1 SRB is unstable!

Recommended Posts

Mkay... so is this actually a question? Doesn't really look like a question.

If not, do you have any screenshots to explain what you're talking about?

Edit: As far as I've experimented, tho, it doesn't matter if you attach the launch clamps to the SRBs or the central rocket. (At least on my designs, I have no idea what you're working with.) The only time I've had an issue with it exploding the launch pad is when I had the bottom on the SRBs clipping through the floor in the VAB. As long as there's some clearance there, you shouldn't have any problem with an exploding launchpad.

Building a huge liquid fuel rocket. Stands on the launchpad fine.

add 2 S1 SRBs (not even near the ground) and KABOOM!

remove the SRBs - all's quiet

put them back - KABOOM!

add launch clamps to the SRBs, ... no kaboom.

HTH

Using your logic:

10-ton trucks are explosive!

I can stand on the ground, no problem.

Place just one 10-ton truck on my head, and it smashes violently to the ground!

Obviously this means that there is something wrong with the truck!

You *do* realize that those S1 boosters weigh 48 thousand pounds. each?

You might be simply increasing the pressure footprint of your vehicle too much.

Also, the S1 is a loooong skinny tube. It might be swiveling around its attachment point. Try adding a strut?
