I can't put a .gif as my profile picture.

From memory, all avatars uploaded to the forum are autoconverted to JPG format. You'll need to ensure the avatar has the correct size, and then upload it to a third-party image hosting website (Imgur or Dropbox will do the trick). Then, open the Edit Avatar screen on the forum and insert the link under Option One in the text box.

One of rainbowtrout's less terrifying modkip avatars winked, so there is some way to get animation. then again It could be mods only since they aren't locked into the 64x64 pixel cap.

Look at mrrpamplemousse. He has a moving Kraken gif.

I uploaded mine through the forum(not 3rd party host). It must be no more than 19.5 kb and 64x64 dimensions.

(profile pic can be 100x100, 64.0 kb)

if you try to upload a file too big, it will turn into a still image.

EDIT: Overfloater has .gif's all up in his profile so...huh.

Sorry I spooked you

I set my avatars through the control panel thingy. For some reason user avatars need to be smaller than moderator ones; I think that's vBulletin. User can set gifs, to my knowledge.

Just as long as its 64x64 and the right size :D got mine to work through heavy optimizing.
