Hello again,

First off, I got my first part in game! It's a simple jet engine model for practice, but hey!

Thank you all of you who take the time to answer questions and maintain the knowledge base, without you I wouldn't have even given this a shot.

That said, I have plenty to learn, and first on the list is how to soften the hard edges you can see above. Thing looks like a golf ball. I modeled it in blender if that helps with specifics.

Looks like a smoothing group thing: http://wiki.blender.org/index.php/Doc:2.6/Manual/Modeling/Meshes/Smoothing

Congrats, on your first part, btw :)

Pretty much this. In edit mode choose the edges you want to be sharp then press strg+e and select mark sharp. Them apply the edge split modifier and set it to sharp edges, not angle. Don't forget to make the rest of the mesh smooth shaded.

You could also just apply the edge split modifier based on angle, but doing it manually gives you more control over which edges are sharp. With the model you have there it would probably work fine though.

Yep, this.

There are many ways to achieve the same thing, but here's the "quick and dirty" way that I do it: From Blender, in Object mode, I'll smooth the entire mesh, then apply an "edge split" modifier, and set an angle for it that gives me the best mix of sharp/smooth edges (usually around 40-50 degrees). Then when exporting, I usually use Collada/DAE, so I have to select "apply modifiers" so that it carries through to Unity.
