KAS and EPL's Love Baby: 3D-printer

Spawn Print KAS-able parts from a tray in your lander. I would totally dig that.

So instead of attaching 2 (for balance) of those radial containers (with too few or wrong parts), you add 1 stackable (1,25m) printer and 1 little stackable (1,25m) tank of rocket parts. Sweet profit guaranteed.

Some one interested in making such a thing?

hmm this could probably be done if you modified the recently released Hanger mod with BahamutoD's 3D printer which he built for EPL(scaled down of course) and modifying the code a bit you could do it.... of course i can't because i don't make plugins

Actually....

http://rt.com/news/203643-moon-base-3d-printer/

I see a big*ss mobile printer module.

If it can't be done in KSP, it can't be done...

This is more a matter of 'Space Engineer' meets 'KSP' :D Also a great idea.

I'm looking for a printer to print parts. Because I always bring the wrong parts or not enough.

That's sort of the the point...the printer modules come in a range of sizes, each able to make certain parts/assemblies based on their relative sizes. You would take a big non-rover'able one to manufacture the parts for your base, then use the smaller ones when away from the main location. However, you would need to make a 'skip loader' or some sort of mining rig to supply (notional) resources or Mun rubble to the printer for it to actually print stuff.

Rather than making the game easier, it actually involves a lot more effort on the player's part - also adds another dimension if the stuff needed to go into the printer isn't too common and you have to look for it.

So, we need a mining rig to collect regolith. Something to separate the regolith into printable materials (sand, glass, metals). Maybe make 'glue' out of Karbonite?

And most of all, a device that creates parts instead of craft. :D

Wait, stop! Doesn't EPL load subassemblies? Then it's a matter off designing a few building blocks and add them to your subassemblies and tamper with a few cfg's. No need for new plugins

No, seriously. I checked it. You can add parts to your subassembly folder and spawn them on a launchpad AND grab them to put them wherever you want them.

SO, basically, all I need is a nice model for a 3D-printer. Which Bahamuto has, but that one converts metal to rocketparts(?)..

I'm still intrigued by the idea of building off world bases with regolith. That would require the modelling of a handfull of building blocks and a door airlock and windows.

Any takers?
