Do Career Mode Rescue Missions and Mechjeb not mix, at all?

Recommended Posts

I've seen on videos on Youtube, that, once your rocket reaches the stranded orbiting Kerbal (at a certain distance, 40 yards, if I'm correct), that the game IMMEDIATELY switches to the stranded Kerbal so you can get them inside.

Does the game see Mechjeb (in use) and say "You're using Mechjeb to get to the stranded Kerbal?! NO COMPLETION FOR YOU!!! WE NO SWITCH YOU TO KERBAL, SO YOU CANNOT WIN!!"?

Basically... I used Mechjeb to get to the orbiting green doofus, and the game won't switch me to get him inside... no matter the distance the ship is near. What am I doing wrong?!

Have you tried switching to the guy manually?

Hitting the "[" or "]" keys when within 2.3 km of another object will switch your viewpoint and controls to that object.

I ask this because I use MechJeb as well, and haven't had any problems rescuing Kerbals when I need to. Matter of fact, stick a pod on the top of the Z-map satellite launch kit's launcher and you have a pretty cheap and very usable rescue vehicle. You can even add couple of RCS quads to that if you want to, and they'll draw from the monopropellant in the pod. Can even do a powered landing with it, if you're careful with the fuel.

Press [ or ] to switch between craft which are within physics distance, or go to map view or the tracking center to switch between distant craft.

I have no idea where you got the "auto-switch" thing from: I've never experienced that myself.

Could be a simple interface bug; occasionally mine will just derp and I'll have to quit out if I want to click on things from the map view. But using the brackets "[" or "]" should still let you switch to different objects nearby.

Ok, thank you ALL!! I didn't know you needed to use the [ or ] keys (tbh, I may have been playing for 5 months, but there's a LOT I need to learn).

Or perhaps the person uses the key without announcing it? You can't see keystrokes in a video.

This, otoh, was kinda rude.

I'm not sure what you read into my post. It's true that you can't see keystrokes in videos; if the player doesn't announce it, it'll look just like it switched automatically.

Perhaps you thought my post was less helpful than the others since I did not tell you what keys to use... but the others already did, so there was no point repeating them.

If anything it was more directed at RSwordsman's speculation that it might be a bug; my post is meant to say that "it might not be a bug; Dire_Squid might've just thought it switched automatically when the YouTube player used the hotkeys".
