Need help with RemoteTech2

Recommended Posts

Hey! Like I said on a previous post... My KSP experience so far is all about getting used to a couple of mods I want to use...

Previously I've been busy making an SSTO for kerbonauts and kargo whilr using NEAR and DR.. That worked well which makes me happy... :-p

But now I have a new issue... I'm experimenting with RemoteTech2. I decided to start simple so I made a simple satelite with a dish antena to communicate with KSC... I already saw a couple of design flaws on the basic design (I should have extra dish antennas if I wanted a working constellation, one of the solar panels is obstructed, etc).

But none of that matters as I just wanted a basic link with KSC! :-(

So... Here's the problem:

That satelite doesn't seem to have a link to ksc... I'm aware I'll only get a connection while it's on KSC's direct lign of sight... But even if I wait for a full orbit, when they're on top of each other they don't connect... :-(

Here's an image with a bit more information:

As you can see both of them are aligned but still there's no connection (upper left corner)! If I'm not mistaken the current antenna I'm using has more then enough range, it has lots of power and is perfectly aligned... So why doesn't it connect with KSC??? :-(

One thing I find strange is that I was expecting a coverage 'cone' on the map view but instead I get a line...

So... Does anyone have any ideas? :-/

You need to right click on the dish, click on select target. A small window will open up with options for planets, moons and ships (including KSC). You click on KSC, then KSC will become the active target. You then activate the dish, and voilà. It should work. Just make sure you do this before you go out of range, or lose your local control, otherwise it won't work :P

Hope this helps,

ToTheMun

Yeah.... I have an omnidirectional antenna but a) I forgot to deploy it B) eveb if I remembered I forgot to put one on the shuttle... :-(

Either way the dish is deployed and connected to KSC... But no dice... :-(

Dung!! I'm sorry... I posted on the wrong forum... It was meant for gameplay questios... :-(

I think I have the latest version as I think I remember a mention to the version number change so I think I'm not using RT2 but a newer version with a lower ver number...

As for the rest I think I have enough power as I have two batteries and a solar panel and the batteries still have energy...

Sorry again for posting on the wrong forum...

Finally I can have a smile as I ran into this soooo many times

As this won`t help with the current sat, here is a golden tip so that mistake will never happen again unless you send a first satellite to another body:

Add a Reflectron DP-10 to everything by default, it`s a pretty much useless static antenna with 500km range, but you won`t run into this problem again anytime soon

If you have kas, you can send a manned mission and use endpipes to connect it to the vessel and activate the antenna`s.

About the cone, you only get that when the dish is active and targetting something, so even if it`s active but no target it does nothing.

The line you get with antenna`s and if there is an active connection, you will see the line turn green.

You could try to just put another satellite on the launchpad, activate the antenna`s and then change back into orbit, this might make it active.

le sigh. The "line" is actually the very tip of the cone because the angle is only .1-ish degrees. If you don't have electric charge you are not going to get a connection. You do need to point the dish as something meaning that it should probably be pointed at KSC, not just Kerbin.

I thought a EVA kerbal could activate antennas,

either way no need for KAS the claw will work as well

Actually you're wrong... Apparently the "line" is the body the craft is currently connected with... The dish doesn't need to be pointing towards KSC. The sarcasm on your post put me off a bit but still like you said I should've connected the satellite to KSC and not just Kerbin... My bad, I guess... I started a new sandbox to try it fresh and only then I figured my mistake.

Even though the sarcasm didn't help your comment as a whole was helpful as I (stupidly I admit) assumed Kerbin = KSC so when everyone told me to connect to KSC (by the other users) I assumed it was already done.

Thanks for the help...

I actually use KAS so I'll keep that in mind as I'm sure I'll make that mistake at some point (probably a lot)... :P

And thanks everyone for the help too! :)
