(Kerbo Log) Kelly, Kirk, Kurt, Sara, and Jonny Kerman as Orange Suits

Recommended Posts

Jebediah, Bill, and Bob remain orange-suited because they are a part of the game's history. When the game was young.

There's also Kirk Kerman and Kurt Kerman who can spawn randomly, as well as 33 more.

Some of these names come from people, like Scott Manley, Ed Lu, and Randall Munroe, but many others come from the Kerbo Logs.

There were other Kerbo Logs that have not survived, and many other tinfoil Kerbals (including Jeb, Bill, and Bob; all presumably from separate logs, simply remembered when they were first implemented)

I think that any of these names that came from the Kerbo Logs should be made into Orange-Suits. They'd still have to spawn before they show up, but they'd have orange suits, recognizing that they came first.

Or maybe they should be given another, more special suit. To further acknowledge where they came from, perhaps they might have a unique tinfoil suit. :)

Also, here's where the name list came from.

That Aerospike WIP looks pretty good though.

Erm.. Multiple Forum Tabs open causes problems. Wrong thread.

Hehehe...

Here's a good question: Why are the orange suits' suits not orange when they step outside of the capsule?

But I like the idea of the "tinfoil" suit...

EDIT: Maybe made of this stuff?

The Orange suits are based on the Advanced Crew Escape Suit, used for launch and landings.

Presumably, the Kerbals change into white EVA suits when they exit their vehicle, hence the discrepancy.

Yeah, but to be honest I don kinda wish the orange Suits remained Orange on EVA. This might even allow for some difference between JebBillBob and other orangeSuits, JebBillBob could have orange helmet stripes while other orange Suits have grey helmet stripes?

Even better would be context-sensitive suit, similar to what TextureReplacer currently does.

If the Kerbal is EVAing on Kerbin, he or she should wear an Orange suit with the helmet off (akin to shuttle astronauts post-flight). In all other environments, a full EVA suit would be more appropriate.

People are so weird and precious about the orange suits. This game isn't even beta yet, I don't think the spotty bits of existing lore and throwbacks are really that critical to the gaming experience.

They are critical to the experience. The lore is what keeps KSP from just being another game about spaceships. Really, this isn't actually about lore, it's about IRL stuff.

Oh? were they the first kerbals in the game? or only the first "kerbos" mentioned in a doodle from a decade ago, long before any actual development of the game started?

You act like that's less than being the first kerbals in the game. These were the First. Kerbals. Ever. If it wasn't for Kelly, Kirk, Kurt, Sara, and Jonny Kerman then KSP wouldn't even have been created.

Besides, I'm not even suggesting that you get these kerbals at the start! I'm just suggesting that when they DO spawn, they get special suits! Either Orange suits or Tinfoil Suits or something!

Honestly I'd kinda like most specially named Kerbals to have a special suit.

I have to "spread the rep around" but i lol'd at the kirk one, i forgot about that.

Im amenable to more unique suits, more variation. arm or helmet stripes for one. as long as the big3 starters stay unique and special

What about a different kind of suit, like a Blue Suit?

I was going to make some concept art, but then I realised my GIMP skills suck, so everything I tried just ended up being... creepy.

I like the idea that there should be more special kerbals, but I think the orange suits should stick to just being Jeb, Bill, and Bob.

EDIT: Okay, I managed to make some concept art by editing an image (slightly).

This is by no means a perfect example, but it should get the point across.

No I mean I get it but lets get a grip here. The lore is by far the weakest part of this game. Its one model of a green guy in a spacesuit with different names attached to it. Theres no story of any kind. I think its okay to take some liberties moving forward. I mean Jeb was the FIRST. KERBAL. EVER. Should he get his own special suit? Or should we just chill the .... out until they sort out unique kerbal training and do something meaningful with suit colors then.
