xMcNerdx
I finally figured out how to land on the moon after a couple weeks. I used stock parts and a guide on how to get to the Mun, although I didn\'t follow it exactly as I was supposed to (and that\'s why I ran out of fuel when trying to get back). Now that I\'ve done that, what should I do now? Also, what mods should I download and where can I download them from?
erkha343
Get some mods, Thruss pack, deep space, Down under and Monkey kitchenware are the ones I usually use, one that is NECESSARY is the MechJeb, then find the monolith, it\'s near the equator in a crater. . .Do some of the challenges on the challenge forum. And wait for the next release! You could also try out orbiter

Sordid
Look for the Munolith and the semi-mythical Tranquility Base.
xMcNerdx
Okay I have tried to land on the moon three times now, and I have successfully (sort of). The problem is that every time I land either the engine breaks off or the whole thing breaks, leaving just the capsule. Any tips? I try landing at speeds of under 10 m/s, but it doesn\'t seem to help.
umter
I\'m pretty sure 5m/s is the magic number when performing Mun landings I always keep it below 5m/s and it seems to do the trick Give it a go and let us know how you get on! Thanks
Sordid
You are using landing legs, right? Landing directly on the engine is a Very Bad IdeaTM.

Zephram Kerman
Before lander legs (pre-14.2 and demo) we used winglets attached to radial decouplers. If you do it just right, that combination projects just far enough to protect the gimballed LE. Alternatively, use the new small engine. Another alternative, if you don\'t mind downloading mods. The cart has a pretty robust suspension, which makes landings more forgiving. You can even land with 100 m/s horizontal velocity... but not sideways. I keep finding new challenges. Making my landers more robust is the main thing. Next is optimizing fuel efficiency so that I can land bigger ships. (Look into the Goddard problem ascent profile, think about the gravity turn, transfer orbits, and things like that.) I\'m also thinking about how to keep from littering the sky with booster parts. And then there\'s the new communal activity of hunting for Easter eggs.
