The Rover Experts who haven't built any rovers.

Recommended Posts

After a rather embarrassing attempt to recase the Rapier engine (Completely changed the file type and had to dump it), The Rover Experts have put together a new Aerospike! For those that don't know about The Rover Experts, read down to the last section.

This new and improved Aerospike is their first attempt at a recasing of an engine using engine debris found lying on the ground after failed launches. After recovered, it is brought into the lab for rebuilding, and then the team decides what to do with it. Various small modifications have been made, such as the material it is made of, and the contents and mechanics of the combustion chamber. This allows for a lighter engine with higher ISP, therefore more Delta-V. These aren't huge improvements, however, and the team found it insignificant to send to market. Though, after a bit of an... accident, the Advanced Aerospike was marketed.

Here's the CFG file if you want it for yourself: http://www./download/vls5721yd7d23zg/liquidEngineAdvancedAerospike.cfg

If you do not know how to install this properly, here is what you do:

Open the folder where KSP.exe is located. In the folder with it, there should be a subfolder named GameData. In the GameData, there is another subfolder named Squad. This is the folder where your parts are stored. You want the folders Parts, then Engine. Inside, there should be a folder named liquidEngineAerospike. Go in there and move the CFG file already in there to a different location. After it's gone, move the new CFG file in and start up the game. The Advanced Aerospike should take the place of the old one.

Simplified explanation: Local Disk → Program Files(x86) → Steam → Steamapps → common → Kerbal Space Program → GameData → Squad → Parts → Engine → liquidEngineAerospike Remove liquidEngineAerospike.cfg and replace with liquidEngineAdvancedAerspike.cfg

Please report any problems with this if you find any.

For those that do not know The Rover Experts, they are a band of Kerbal Space rejects, who have decided to dedicate their lives to exploring space such as the space program, but better. The Rover Experts salvage the broken parts from failed launch attempts, or from pure tomfoolery at the space program. Yup. Your fooling around is good for their business. Anyway, the team fixes up these parts, makes improvements, and markets them for profit. The KSC has even asked for some parts, but the team has declined... until now! They started doing business with the space program, and the profits shot through the roof.

If the space program asks for more, the team might have the budget to recase some more parts in the future. You can contribute to their cause in 2 ways:

Make non-flyable spacecraft, which in turn crashes and provides parts.

Just purchase the parts to do your part in making the space center a better place.

More rockets soon to come!

I guess you could consider it cheating, but I believe these engines need a boost. They seem very underpowered. I prefer to call it a recasing, like an advanced computer compared to others. I'm not making them overpowered or anything, so I'd consider it okay.

The aerospike didn't need a boost. It is already one of the best all around engines in the game.

Meh, I guess that's true. I just thought I'd do it anyway. It is the first technical modding I've done, scratch the Rapier... Though I still plan to write new CFGs for a few more.

Shouldn't this go in Add On Releases? Since it's a config file edit which is basically a mod.

It's actually more creating than editing. I write the actual new CFG files, but keep the modelling the same. I didn't put this in Add-on Releases because it doesn't use any plugins. Trust me, I'm still nowhere near knowledgeable enough to model engines and create Dlls.
