Simple Texture Optimization

I was wondering one day if there could be a simple way to increase optimization to the game and I came up with a (hopefully) simple idea.

So, the textures in-between parts always seem to be loaded all the time and I was thinking that once a 1m part connected with the green dot of another 1m part, the texture in between them would not load in game. 1m to 3m would still load but 3m to 3m wouldn't unless it was an SAS or decoupler piece. Again, there are a few problems with this such as seeing through the ship when it "bends" apart so it could be an option in the menu or something for players who need it.

I really don't know programming and stuff so forgive me if I'm trying to eat soup with a fork here or if I'm breaking the really broad, unspecific rule on "changing part loading".
