Entering buildings crashes the game

Recommended Posts

KSP Version: 0.25.0.642, Win7 32bit, Steam version

What Happens: Crashes instantly whenever I click on a building, making it impossible to play.

Mods / Add-Ons: None

Steps to Replicate: Update to the version shown above, and if you're are unlucky like me (as no one else seems to experience this problem.), you will crash upon clicking a building.

Result: A crash, that does not leave a crash report.

Fixes/Workarounds: None found so far.

Other Notes/Pictures/Log Files: This cripples the game, all my computer specs are above recommended, and this did not happen in any versions of 0.24. Until this bug is fixed, is there a way to downgrade to 0.24?

Every run of KSP (that gets as far as actually managing to load the exe and dependencies) will always write an output_log.txt file into the KSP_Data folder.

On 32 bit versions of Windows KSP is only able to use a maximum of 2GB of memory (actually a bit less than this) and a stock install of 0.25 with default settings gets close enough to this limit just loading to the main menu that trying to do anything else usually results in a crash. Try reducing the texture resolution in the graphics settings and see if that makes enough of a difference. Another thing you can try is to add the -force-open-gl parameter to the command line (in Steam, Properties on KSP then "Set Launch Options...").

As an alternative you can install the previous released version via Steam. Get the Properties window up for KSP, select the Betas tab and then choose "Previous - Previous stable release" from the drop down list. Make sure you back up any saves etc you may want to keep. This should install 0.24.2 though you may need to do "Delete local content..." first to ensure you get a clean install...
