Ordinarily I would deride you for seeking advice from an internet forum about how to deal with your friend, but this time I think I'll just tell you to ditch him. It's not going to work out at all.

As it has already been said, he's gonna be a great politician someday. Well, great for himself and his interests.

Be friends with him. A good influence goes a long way. Teach him how to be respectful of others opinions and interests and maybe he will change. I was kind of in the same situation as you once. I had to partner up with this new guy that smoked and took drugs and stuff. He was nothing like be but by the end of me showing him, he went of smoking. (still took drugs).

It does not matter if he's of different opinions/judgemental. The only thing that matters is if you care of each other and can help each other.

Regarding opinions and views, different opinions around teach you respect and to be careful with arguments and judgements (or judgemental arguments). It's much better than stay in a equal-thinking bubble.

may be he care more about something else and he is also annoyed that you not noticed it because your stuck & blind by your owns focus. (Old mirror trick again, yup)

I thought about just avoiding him, but I decided to do the experimental route. I decided to become more assertive and extrovert, and it actually made him and others respect me a lot more. Interesting social science right there.

Yes, I agree, he will make a great politician. Strange that he wants to be an actor considering how well he can prove and stand up for his opinion. Only thing he lacks ATM is tolerance towards other people's opinions. If I manage to fix that, I will have succeeded in turning him into a good person. Even right now, I am succeeding in making him help me without being pushy.
