Day 21: Kerbal Juggling

Another habitat module? I included that in the core bit! Gah. Oh well, looks like they'll have plenty of company up there. Todays payload has two lander cans (2 Kerbals each), some more TAC Life Support modules, and a dedicated food supply as that can't be re-made, unlike Oxygen and Water. There was also a cupola section, for the Kerbals to use, and another docking section, with Senior and Junior docking ports, just in case. Had a bit of a nightmare trying to get the transfer stages of each payload docked so they could be de-orbited (forgot the solar panels - d'oh!) but managed it in the end. Thinking of sending up a lifeboat craft next, and possibly a science lab - depending on the challenge requirements!

Hi All :)

December 21st, Full stock, KSP 0.90.

Well... 4 ? at least ? why not 68 ? ^^

I wanted to make a mini "like 2001 Space odyssee" wheel :)

So, after SSTO lifter came back to kerbin, i launched the wheel with the same SSTO lifter, and... that was ok for the mission again :)

Hi All :)

December 22nd, Full stock, KSP 0.90.

SSTO Plane, 6 Kerbals onboard.

Hard to find my way without breaking the solars panels...

For the next time: retract panels before docking xD

2 scientists, 1 engineer and 1 pilot in KSS :)

By the time Day 22 arrived on the calendar the KSC controllers decided it was time to have someone inhabit their new orbital station. The engineers quickly designed a new launch vehicle and prepared for launch, but Jeb insisted that any sort of contraption in LKO required the ability for every Kerbal aboard to have an escape system to return to safely to Kerbin. So an additional station module was designed, containing six tiny capsules giving a total escape system capacity for 18 Kerbals.

With the escape system built and incorporated into the space craft, our three heroes set out once again in another exciting launch to rendezvous with the LKO station. After arrival they separated their capsule from the new escape system module and proceeded to dock with the station. The automated tug then detached from the station, fetched the new module, and attached it to the growing station immediately behind the laboratory. Bob and Bill suggested this location since the laboratory as the most likely location where urgent and emergency escape would become necessary.

At the conclusion of this day's activities the station has plenty of living space, a cupola for singing, a full science laboratory, and a reliable escape system to provide safe return for a large crew. Jeb, Bob, and Bill have taken up residence for the first shake-down mission. Soon there will be additional crew members joining them for an extended mission, once the station proves fully operational.

December 22

Sent a modified habitation module to the space station with a crew of 24 kerbals, since my station can hold 24 Kerbals. Also it serves as an emergency life boat to evacuate all Kerbals in an emergency. I hope it can survive the parachute popping phase.

As promised, here's my activity log for the last couple of days:

For my space station, I'm using the bits I built when I went to create Space Station Mere -

- and no, I have no intention of doing another one of THOSE for this challenge. Though I do need to put one up around Kerbin sometime, I think.

This should catch me completely up with everything from December 1-22. Tonight will be the last time I get to play KSP before Christmas for sure; I'd sure like to finish the challenge if I can.

And there go the last two official missions. It seems almost depressing to see this challenge officially over (apart from the Apres-Noel challenges)... Wait, what's this? A new set of challenges for the new year? AWESOME!

I'm terrible at being dramatic, aren't I?

December 23 - 24.

Good thing it's my day off today but with barely enough time so i post the last two days today. If i have time i will do the last December challenges and post them near the end's year since my free time is full of chores

Day 23: For Science!

Nice and simple this one :) added a comms tower to the space station as well, in preparation for tomorrow's challenge. Never been to Eeloo or Val before, so a new experience!

In case I don't get to post again before Christmas, many thanks to TJPrime for this challenge series, have a Happy Christmas all and see you for The Year of the Kerbal!

Day 23. The scientists at KSC found the LKO station extremely valuable for their research, so much so that they insisted the engineers increase the capacity for science laboratory modules. Since Jeb, Bill, and Bob were already in orbit the next crew in line were Kurt, Endrin, and Henry. These three brave souls climbed into their space craft and launched the latest module to the growing station. The crew was successful in rendezvous and the station's autonomous tug took over the task to attach the new module. Afterwards the new crew docked with the station and joined the existing crew in celebration.

Hi All :)

December 24th, Full stock, KSP 0.90.

Didn't remember Eeloo was so far away... BUT Jeb, Bill and Bob wanted to go far away !!!

After coming back to Kerbin from KSS with the SSTO plane, they took the big SSTO TurboJet lifter to launch the Rocket in LKO... and to Eeloo :)

The two little Christmas Trees survived the trip !

There is even enough fuel to come back to Kerbin, but i'll make that tomorrow :P

Merry Christmas everybody, was really fun to make this challenge :)

By the time Day 24 arrived the KSC engineers were greatly inspired by two things: remote control spacecraft, and the holiday season. Their secretive plan was to send a deep space mission to the furthest known planet: Eeloo. They hastily built another space craft, but didn't tell anyone what the payload was. Their design kept the "gift" under wraps, under a protective shroud. The launch was pretty exciting, Kerbals on every part of Kerbin (and above Kerbin!) watched the launch as the mission set off for the distant reaches of their planetary system. No Kerbal had ever seen the tiny planet of Eeloo, so there was great speculation about what the probe would find. Only a few trusted folks at KSC knew what was hidden behind the shroud, but after a very, very long journey all was revealed. The entire planet of Kerbin rejoiced in the holiday festivities as the Kristmas Tree probe "landed"* on Eeloo.

* This is the first time I've ever visited Eeloo and (likely predictably, for a first attempt) my design lacked enough delta-v to achieve orbit and a soft landing. Here is hoping that the definition of "landed at Eeloo" includes "crash landing"... :)

Thanks to TJPrime for this fantastic challenge in the run-up to Christmas, its been lots of fun. Not sure I'll have enough time for the post-holiday missions, but I'll definitely follow along on this thread.

As there was a lab already launched as the core of the station the team at KSC thought sending up the experiments might be worthwhile. Having successfully docked these to Hotel KSS they moved on to planting a Khristmas tree on Eeloo. It was a simple idea, and they thought what better than a star at the top and decorations of science. 3 yrs later and we have Eeloo's first tree

You must have has a Stayputnik on the Eeloo tree mission, one of the hazards of flying when an upgrade takes place in the middle of an extended challenge. It is raising havoc with testing for the seven day challenge. The upgrade costs are making me having to look at other ways to do various planned daily missions.

Day 27: SCIENCE BOMBS

Oh, me again? Speaking for myself I didn't do yesterday's challenge as I'm not using 0.90 yet as I'm waiting for various mods to update - thus, no Mk3 fuselage parts. I also figured that the SSTO I built for the Crew Transfer day counted as a shuttle, and family were still round at this point. Anyway, onto today. I decided to use a similar delivery method to day 12 for this one, and dropped the science payload from a cargo bay :)

The upgrade in the middle of this challenge became a challenge in itself. Flights in progress became corrupted when certain parts changed in their ability. (The Duna landing had to be redone replacing the Stayputnik with a Probododyne as the Stayputnik became only a R/C receiver with all stability capability removed.) The rest of this week has become too busy to do any KSP or any other game.
