Has anyone tried this to increase memory available for use by the 32bit version?

If I am reading this correctly this will increase the memory the 32 bit version uses.

I saw a post on the Steam forum and will be trying it out to see how if it works and will post my results.

EDIT: Yep does nothing not already being done as other posters pointed out. I am just learning this kind of stuff and wanted others opinions, sorry for wasting forum space with this useless info.

Looking at normal KSP memory usage I assume this is already set by default KSP. In any case i just tried it and got crashes at about the same point as before.

EDIT: For anyone curious what this does: It is usually refered to as the 'Large Address Aware' flag, google it.

Yes the 32bit Windows version of KSP is already marked as "large address aware" which is why it can use more than 2GB of memory when running on 64 bit versions of Windows. This sort of patch will have no beneficial effect on KSP (and these sorts of patches used to be a fairly common attack vector for some rather nasty viruses, trojans and other malware).

The issue with KSP is that, as a 32-bit program it can only access up to 4GB of RAM, but you run into stability issues beyond about 3GB. I don't think that "patch" was meant to increase that cap further, but bring the 2GB limit up to a 4GB limit for older programs.

Use "Active Texture Management" for KSP if your running addons like B9, KW Rocketry, etc.

The problem with KSP crashing aside from running out of memory is some addons are written poorly (just thrown together to rush a release out) and use old .dll files that conflict.

Also KSP in itself is still in Alpha stage and has its own series of bugs of course mainly in the memory management areas.

The program mentioned in this thread is for LAA (Large Address Aware) for older windows software to be able to access above the 2GB limit.

Windows in itself caps usable RAM depending on the version and edition you have. Most Home editions have a 4Gb cap @ 32bit and 8Gb @ 64bit and you can only get above 4/8Gb caps if you upgrade or clean ISO install the OS of a professional or higher edition.. Its a gimmick Microsoft uses to make you buy their "better versions" or suffer poor quality. There is a trick around all this as each windows DVD is by default the same disc only a different label printed and key attached to match what the label says. So you can if you know what to do, "hack" the DVD and change a bit flag to give you an install or upgrade option for ALL versions and editions, basically unlocking the disc. This is NOT something ZI will explain how to do but you can look it up online and such if you just have to try it.
