EVA problem

Recommended Posts

Hello, this is my first topic! I'm having a bit of trouble EVAing my Kerbals. When I EVA in space, my Kerbal just floats of far away and I have to use a load of EVA fuel to get back. But I've been watching videos and some people go at speeds at 2000m/s and their Kerbals just stick to the door of the ship. Help?

this used to happen to me a lot but now it happens way less often. if rotating the ship doesn't work you can try placing a ladder or 2 under the pod's hatch. if you have parts like solar panels close to the hatch you can try moving them somewhere else. i hope this solves your problem

As mentioned place some normal ladders next to the pods hatch so the kerbal uses those instead of the tiny ones on the pod.

Also you may want to check out the bug fix modules found here: http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/97285-0-25-Stock-Bug-Fix-Modules-%28Release-v0-1-5b-23-Nov-14%29

Specifically "EVAEjectionFix"

The above post is to a thread which offers some fixes for this. It's a known issue- actually two separate issues, which have popped up in recent versions.

One is that Kerbals are sometimes ejected from certain command pods, they normally should stick to the command pod when you EVA them.

The other issue is that Kerbals sometimes slide off ladders and pods, even though you are not commanding them to.

Some consider those two issues to be a single issue. Regardless, the issue is known, and likely to be fixed in a future release. Meanwhile, the link posted above by ExavierMacbeth should help you out. Otherwise- you get to practice your EVA skills! Yay!

Good luck!

I've found this fix to be a big help, you should look into it. There's also been recent discussion/mention on the subject regarding items mounted too close to (or on) the hatch/hatch area... and that it can also be a cause for your pilot to be thrown quite a way out - as I myself have experienced with one of my capsules.

The answers above regarding EVAEjectionFix are correct. This is a bug that I experienced the other day. My kerbal was on EVA and every time I had him grab the ladder to get back inside the capsule, he went flying backwards and away from the ship. He was 3/4 through his fuel by the time I was able to finally get him back inside. It was about 15 minutes of pure frustration. Give the fix mentioned above, and also attaching more ladders can help.
