What do we think of the new MK3 Part set?

Recommended Posts

Squad reveled the new MK3 Parts yesterday.

what do you like? what would you change? what are you excited about?

Me, I love that the 2.5m parts will fit inside.

I'm not sure about how big the crew tanks are. I think they should be 2/3 the size they are now. leaving more length for cargo bay. just my personal preference.

what do you guys think?

I like the truncated solution they used to make it fit 2.5m part, and most of the adapters, the symmetrical and asymmetrical one alike.

Don't you fill it's missing a symmetrical mk3 to mk2 ? I see we can do it with other parts but it would be slightly longer.

I'm wondering if they plan a streamlined nosecone fitting a docking port, though that's not really necessary.

Some player will wish to have cargo ramp for rover, but it would require robotic mechanism which is on the WNTS list, certainly like a hypothetical attach-node that would rotate by 90° something attached in the cargo bay.

I wonder how many Kerman it can carry at once 6, 8, 12 ? but a LOT it seem.

It short, for now I believe I will be entirely satisfied by mk3 spaceplane parts.

The crew tanks seem indeed a little long. I would also prefer less windows on that part, but thats just cosmetical. I still hope we get a new medium sized nosecone. The one we have is nice for rockets, but looks bad on planes. Although the new mk3 cockpit fits in shape and angle, which is a welcome surprise. I'm curious what the new landing gear will look like.

I was hoping for a belly that looked more like a heat shield, but appart from that those parts are a great addition to the game and I'm glad that shuttles are finally represented in stock. Lets see how long it takes until the first troll apears blaming kap cause his space shuttle replica doesn't work :P

I wonder if high gimbal engines/SSME's will make it into the game, not that I need them. Hermes (ESA design) are my favourite choice

Big discussion here. I think without cargobays and wheels (might not be on 0.90), they're as useful as the current Mk3 set.

Not quite, since they'll actually hold LFO instead of the, for spacecraft generally useless, LiquidFuel. Also they'll fit to things better. I think there's a larger chance that we'll get the cargo bays and wheels in 0.90 than that we won't get them. They're just being careful with promises, as there's still chance that it won't be done in time.

16 I think they said.

I agree. 16 Kerbals is far too much to carry for most missions anyway. Making it as long as a half-length slice fuel tank (so 2/3rds of what it is now) would leave room for 8-12 crew, which is more than enough. Though the Mk3 cockpit is probably going to be hold Shuttle numbers of crew, so if you want to rebuild the shuttle you'll probably only need a cockpit, a long cargobay and an LFO tank/adapter.

I think we need a bigger wing type for things that big, or the part counts is going to sky rocket with all the small wing parts cobbled together to get enough lift for that thing.

Yup, they will be terrible in the stock game unless appropriately large wing sections and gear are also included. Spamming small wing sections is not an acceptable alternative to having a few larger wing sections for them. Bays are also obviously a key requirement, and an in-line docking port.

Aside from that, what's shown looks nice enough, quite B9-ish in some ways (far from a bad thing).
