How to get into modding?

Hey everyone, I want to know how to get into modding. I know this will sound bad, but I have no experience in coding. I have just started using Blender, but I would prefer using SketchUp and importing it into Blender. I am also confused about texturing/mapping in blender.

Anyone think they can help? PM me with a good tutorial.

Well, it kind of depends on what you want to make.

Do you want to make parts?

Do you want to change how parts behave, using existing behaviors?

Then you will need:

1. a 3D package, to make the parts

2. an image editor, to texture them

3. Unity, to convert them into KSP's format.

You certainly can use SketchUp, heck bac9 does.

While it is possible to use SketchUp for KSP part modelling, I strongly recommend using Blender instead, as the latter is more widely used in the add-on authoring community, and therefore there are more people able to help you with specific questions than with SketchUp.

Would I be able to model it in SketchUp and import it into Blender?

Yes, i did that a few years ago, works fine, just leave texture work for Blender, i don't know if the latest version of Sketchup got any better at all at texturing but it was really bad a few years ago.

yes. but you want to keep import/export steps to a minimum. Every app's importer/exporter to the common file formats like OBJ; 3DS; DAE; FBX; is a little different, and often times you won't be able to get all the data through the import/export process.
