Change control orientation

Your navball is always oriented following the orientation of the part you're currently controlling from. That's problematic sometimes, when you want to change the orientation during flight, or with rovers or VTOL spacecraft. This is critical for MechJeb's Rover Autopilot and Translatron, for instance, and I often find myself having to awkwardly stick a probe core or docking port somewhere in order to be able to use it.

I would love to have a mod that can change the craft's orientation by 90° in any axis, or at least a single small part that can do it.

I agree, a mod or setting in a mod would be nice...

But here's a thought, in the mean time...What about setting up an action group command for the "Control from here" toggle on the part(s) you need to switch between?

Now you have me thinking if that would work, cuz I sometimes initiate hi-speed maneuvers before remembering to switch, which leads to all sorts of destruction...lol

I don't think you can set an action group for the "Control from here" on stock KSP. Anyway, that wouldn't be much of a solution since it would still require placing docking ports and probes in awkward places.

First, as a workaround my Actions Everywhere mod does allow you to add the Control From Here option to an action group.

This is about the best you are going to get unfortunately. Due to how "vessel orientation" is the same as the "Control From Here part orientation", just renamed, you have to switch to a part with a different rotation to achieve the effect you are looking for.

That isn't really a workaround for the issue, since it still requires an extra part to do that. Being able to use action groups isn't really such a big deal here. The problem is requiring an extra part for no reason other than being able to change orientation.
