Docking Port Faliure

Recommended Posts

So I've seen a few threads on this problem but they're always people putting the ports on wrong or something similar. I've got a multi-section ship that I've spent the evening shuttling to space for assembly. After finally getting two of the sections close enough to begin docking I proceed to spend the next hour getting them docked (I'm not the best). THEY DO DOCK. However, the shuttling probe that I used to get the pieces into orbit needed to jettisoned so the next part could be attached. Turns out it had no power to deorbit. In my haste I quickload to right before the ship parts docked. I've spent the last three hours trying get them to redock and they simply refuse to.

I've flown the ships apart and back together, rotated them to realign ports, turned things on and off, saved and reloaded, saved and restarted the game, time warped, nothing is working. Is there something I'm missing because this is incredibly frustrating.

You could try to restart the whole session and reload the "scenario". Your ships might be more "collaborative".

If it does not work you can try with an "adapter" between the two sections. (in the dark pic below I had to build and send a small "elbow" joint to refuel the ship, the docks connected to the joint but refused to connect directly).

Last but not least, if you can not find any in-game solution, you can try to modify the persistence file.

I think its a problem with the docking ports, if when you quickloaded they were close together you need to move some distance away from the other craft, I would say get about 30m away and retry. I am not sure if it will fix your problem though.

The thread that Taki pointed out links to a Cross Platform bugs thread. In there you'll find many common problems, such as this docking port "failure to dock."

It sounds like you're pretty familiar with docking. Sometimes the docking port states get bugged. You can fix it, but it requires a bit of save file editing. The thread on what to fix is in Taki's link, but I've also pasted it here: http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/78863-FIX-Dock-Undocking-Bug-in-0-23-5

Let me know if you have questions.

Cheers,
