In career mode, how do I find the zones referenced in contracts

Recommended Posts

If I have a contract that references specific zones in its objectives, like "Take a crew report in flight above 17,100 meters near Zone 3A-QNS", how do I figure out where that zone is?

Ok, I understand. So my follow up question (which I now realize I should have asked in the first place): Is there a way to see where the zone is before you accept the contract? I'd like to know where I'm going when I'm trying to determine if a contract is going to be profitable / worth the effort.

How are people getting to the Kerbal stations so early in the career for the Survey Missions?

I have 2 of them but do not have any space plane parts as of yet since it cost 90 science points.

For example i need to get a crew report 19 KM or less over Kerbal Hazard... how the hell do i do that so early in the career lol.

As a general rule, some of the new contracts might not take into account if you can reasonably do them or not. Don't accept them unless you're willing to take the risk!

(at least, I haven't, knowing some of the fineprint contracts they're pretty hard)

Well if you do not take the survey contracts, how do you have enough money to update mission control to get to the mun without flight planning?

Suborbital rockets are perfectly capable of hitting the survey targets. It can pretty much be done entirely off the navball and surface mode, especially if you're able to choose locations that are relatively close (trying to go intercontinental might require leading the target, but anything within a couple minutes flight time can be pretty much aimed directly)

I can confirm this, at least with local targets. My first completed survey contract was to a spot called "Pepe's Shadow". I got to it using a two-stage rocket and with a little fancy flying at the second stage as I got close to the target region. Spent less than 5,000 funds on the rocket in question.

It helps that the target regions are regions rather than pinpoint locations, so that gives you some wiggle-room, not just in aiming but in performing the survey once you get there. Also, in addition to the map marker flashing you'll get a message telling you when you enter the region, regardless of what view you're in.

As an aside, would I be correct in assuming that while the names probably come from a list, they are assigned to random spots (i.e. my location for Pepe's Shadow will likely differ from others)?
