Is reusing/hacking the instruments allowed?

Only allow to reset instruments with a stock science lab. The key point of this challenge is to design something that can do a min required amount of science with the limited part counts in stock (mechjeb ok, as my view is that mechjeb doesn't do anything a human can't do with sufficient time/math/quick save/load)

Gave it a try in hard mode career and after a successful attempt I was still lacking ~50m/s for a return.

The hop between two biomes could definitely be shorter and the pilot more skilled, so I'd say that this ship is capable of the trip for sure.
