Settings and VAB UI too large to use?

Recommended Posts

When I click on the settings tab the entire left half of the settings options are off the screen. Also the name of the craft in VAB overlaps the tabs to load and launch. Nothing else seems affected. Why is this happening? I can't play the game at all.

Ì really need some help fixing this, I couldn't find anyone with a similar problem. Is there anyone with a clue about what this is? I should clarify I tried reinstalling the game completely and it was still like this.

Please have a look here: http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/92230-Stock-Support-Bug-Reporting-Guide

A picture of what you're seeing is worth a thousand words, and helps us keep from guessing. Might be useful to upload an output_log.txt also. At face value, it sounds like your game resolution is set too high.

Welcome to the forums!

Hmm. Actually it looks like your computers resolution is set too low. Try to increase your display resolution and see if that allows you to see more of the options screen.

You can also edit KSP's "setttings.cfg" file. Look for the horizontal and vertical resolution lines. You can then type in whatever you need that matches your computer. Make sure to edit the file with a plain text editor like notepad or the file will be corrupted.

I might not be clear. Computers have two sets of resolution settings.

One setting is associated with KSP. That's the one you set in the settings.cfg file or via the MainMenu->Settings->Graphics page.

The other setting is associated with your computer itself. Such as right-clicking on the desktop and "personalizing" or "screen resolution" (depends on your operating system and version). If that resolution is not high enough, KSP will sometimes turn down it's resolution to match. So even if you told KSP to use a higher resolution, it might not be setting that.

It would really help if you could take a look at this link that I posted earlier: http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/92230-Stock-Support-Bug-Reporting-Guide

It will tell you how to pull KSP's output_log.txt and how to get your DXDiag logs. That would tell us what your computer thinks it is set to, and we can tell you which setting needs to be fixed.

I don't know if this even has anything to do with resolution because only the UI is changed at all. The rest of the game looks completely normal.

There is a scaling option for the UI in the game but that isn't for the settings screen itself, and deleting the settings.cfg should reset KSP to 1024x768 windowed mode.

The launcher is also capable of setting KSP's settings options prior to launch so it's worth looking at that, and Windows does keep some gfx settings in the registry, specifically for screen width, screen height, render quality and windowed/fullscreen.

Btw it should look like this in the default settings if your screen resolution is 1024x768 or greater.
