Science recovery, how it works exactly?

Recommended Posts

Hi guys, actually i'm a kind of "old" player (about 2 years and half of playing constantly KSP) but only recently i switched to career mode. Changing to this has opened to me the world of science in KSP, now i have a question, if you want to return 100% of the experiment is necessary to land on kerbin the mistery goo or materials bay? There isn't another way? How science recovery works?

Thanks, Daze :)

Goo and Mat bays take 3 (or 4, if you're going whole hog, but the 4th is minimally useful) fully returned to Kerbin for max science. Thus the idea of 'science bombs' which you send out, use, and then send home on a suicide burn with chutes.

EDIT: With a Science Lab, you can store multiple reports of the same experiment for return. So, if you're being frugal, you can take a Kerbal on EVA, load everything up into that, and send just the lab home.

Also be aware that a pod can hold only one result per (experiment + situation + biome). So one Goo from the Midlands and one from the Highlands will be OK; but if you want to return two from the midlands, you need to bring two pods, or one lab (currently the only stock module that can hold duplicate results), or the science container (mod part).

With Jeb when i go in EVA near a mistery goo and press right it does happen nothing. Also, what i can do with space lab?

You have to actually run the experiment first :) The science lab can be used to reduce the penalty from transmitting science (but it does need to be manned) or to clean an experiment that has been used to allow it to be used again :D. Both operations consume a significant amount of power and may take a while to process if there's a lot of experiments.

Hm now the thing is clearer ahaha, anyway i have run an experiment, but it didn't work, i will re-try, thanks :)

In that case, the kerbal does need to get quite close to the experiment for it to work. You also can't transmit the experiment when you get it or that will render the experiment unusable (which is what cleaning them is for).

You can only have one of each experiment+biome+situation combination (so, one "temperature scan in flight over Kerbin", for example). A science lab can hold as many of those as you want.

Understand, thanks :)
