Icons for scientist and engineer.

Recommended Posts

The new pilot icons next to the navball are extremely useful and intuitive. But the engineer and the scientist are a bit left out. They have the skill but in flight there is nowhere to see what they can do.

For the scientist Kerbal a number of icons could be displayed. One for each experiment currently on the craft. As soon as there is science to be done the appropriate icon could light up green similarly to the mod [thread=76793]Science Alert[/thread]. Clicking the icon could execute the experiment. When there is science to be done and the experiment still contains data the icon could light up orange.

For the engineer a similar set of icons could show if there are any chutes that need repacking or repair to be done.

And as a second suggestion; How about some small icons in the portraits? Perhaps some yellow wings for a pilot, a blue flask for the scientist and a red wrench for the engineer.

I think a single button for doing all your experiments is way too simplistic - I frequently have multiple experiments of the same kind on a ship, almost always with the intent of getting the science from different locations. Guessing the player's intent would be quite difficult to do well in general. Plus, "one button to do all the things!" is a bit boring. Repacking chutes seems like something you should need to get out and do ;)

This is a great idea :)

Doing all science with a single button would be over powered. Each experiment should have its own button.

And when you have multiple thermometers and click the temperature icon only one should be activated.

Of course you would need to get out. But it would be nice as a reminder.

In 0.25 I have been wondering why my lander was so incredibly unstable after a rough landing. Turned out one of the legs was damaged. A damage indicator would have been very useful at that time.

Yeah that's a nice idea. Though.... I would always check the lander legs after a rough landing just in case :)
