Exploring the Mohole

In 0.90 the Mohole got its own biomes (Northern Sinkhole Ridge & Northern Sinkhole). Where and how exactly do you get that science? I send a Kerbal down there with his EVA pack but he was killed before i reached the bottom since i collided with the walls, i did several EVA reports while falling but they were all from the ridge. What do i have to do to get the science from the sinkhole itself, especialy a surfacesample?

I though about letting someone down with a KAS rope, but the physicsrange is to low (i would loose my anchorpoint). Hoovering in there would be very hard but not impossible, that wouldnt get me a surfacesample, though. Im not sure if landing in there is possible since it had a sharp edge at the end, nothing flat. Did that change?

People have piled Kerbals at the bottom of the Mohole before, so you can land in the bottom.

I seem to recall hearing that the hole was conical. If so coudnt you just reorient your landing legs for a lander to wedge itself in near the bottom.

That'd be a very specialized lander, though.

There's a section of the border between the Northern Sinkhole Ridge and North Pole biomes that counts as the Northern Sinkhole. I discovered this by accident when I sent a rover there. It's about 1KM into the ridge from the flat plane that borders the sinkhole.

Cover a QBE in batteries, science instruments, antenna, cubic octagonal struts and the black rover wheels/pylons. Should survive for a while.

I think that BD Armory has something that increases the physics range.

Or mix and match. Build a wedge lander to go down a way and grab both walls. The let out a rope
