how do you deal with new patches breaking your ships

i play a pretty modded game so this is to be expected but it sure does get annoying rebuilding things, especially complicated stuff like SSTO if your using procedural parts for far

theres a few parts that no one has made yet that keep me from starting over so im thinking about going back to just stock with maybe some interface mods nothing craft related.

I think I've only once has a mod update eat a ship (well, my space station). I was never really sure what happened.

Anyway, I keep my saves backed up. If need be I can roll back the savefile and the mod install in one go.

0.90.0 broke my spaceplanes. I was using the old Mk2 to Mk3 adpter as an improvised Mk2 to 2.5m adapter, until it was removed in the update.

There is a debris field on minmus where I had landed one of my spaceplanes. And a certian amount of kessler synrome where my space station used to be.

Every update I do a fresh install and delete all my saves. I also play a heavily modded game so all my ships are pretty much borked whenever a patch hits. Sometimes I avoid this by delaying the update until I am ready to sacrifice my save, which is usually once all the mods have been updated or I tire of the save file.

I am still playing .25 right now. I hadn't actually played .25 until about a week or two before the patch hit so I'm not yet ready to update.

I'm with the starting a new save crowd.

I see the update as a time to try out new things, to see if I can do things better, or differently.

Plus, KSP can be installed in multiple directories at once thanks to path-independent install technology, so I just store all my older installs as-is in fully working condition. This can be done with Steam AND Squad Store KSPs (and remains, to this day, KSP's best feature).

I start a new game with every update and use only 2 mods which are not part related (chatterer, alarm clock). I usually rebuild craft. 0.25 would have broken a lot of my aircraft due to swapping out old wings and structural stuff which is why i discontinued my documentation on aircraft building in the first place.

Go into a fetal position and cry horribly after I rage quit.

I haven't updated to Beta yet for fear of losing the latest career save.

Because of the way I play with very little multi-day warps, I rarely get a chance to do interplanetarty missions and most of my gameplay is the Kerbal system. So far I have about 35 (non-flag) flights active. Most are unmanned missions to other planets that are still days or months away from SOI events

I tend to transfer my careers over, and even when I don't I'll transfer my craft files. The exception to this, obviously, is the most recent 0.25->0.90 upgrade where I'm remaking my designs. The thing is, a remake is a good excuse to make design upgrades you wouldn't have bothered with before. For one thing, I went from using Kethane in 0.25 to using Karbonite in 0.90, so many of my designs need fundamental changes.

It also helps that I don't use Steam for KSP. I can have 0.25 and 0.90 open side-by-side, which makes it much easier to remake my old designs if that's what I want. In a few cases, I also can go by screenshots to remake an older design.

I find that when forced to build a previous ship again (or more type of ship) after a update that shatters everything I build it better. I can't imagine using some of my ships from a year ago today.

Even my totally awesome lander from last version is a no-go now. Partly due to the changes in Karbonite the mission profile isn't workable anymore, but I made one better using PorkJet's new AtomicAge engines.
