Time warp shaking my craft apart

Recommended Posts

I've been forced to make an odd craft to drag an asteroid out of Sol orbit. I don't expect a ship to survive a launch in time warp (although that would be nice) but it's normally okay once I'm out of the atmosphere. When I initiate time warp on this craft, the sudden freezing of its attitude (I hope I'm using terminology correctly) shakes the ship apart. The attitude is hardly even changing when I start the time warp so basically this ship is unusable. Has anyone else experienced this? It doesn't even make much sense to me that the Probodobodyne core detaches from the RCS tank.

Is there some quick fix? I spent a few hours putting it together and getting it in orbit :(

Save file is here if anyone wants to try it themselves. The save should load on the craft in question (called Class E asteroid ejection craft IV).

My guess is they still have not fixed a bug related to The Klaw (Advanced Grabbing Unit). I was playing a lot with the Klaw in version 0.24 and I would occasion end up with space craft that would do what yours is doing. I would just get them into space and go to time warp to my first burn to circularize the orbit and the vehicle would come apart. Had to restart KSP to get the problem to go away once it occurred. I could play for a few mission and it would happen again and I would have to restart again.

ETA: two Klaws is bad news

I don't really have a good solution for you, but I have had similar things happen. The best thing I can tell you is try taking some of the struts off if you can. I know that is counter intuitive when your problem is instablilty, but I have noticed that if you have a bunch of them on different parts and angles, it seems like they can start pushing against each other or something. I don't know for sure, KSP just gets weird sometimes with large craft like that. Hopefully somebody will have a better solution

To be honest it will be pretty much impossible to keep a craft like that from wobbling/shaking when applying force to it. Timewarp does this in a rather brute fashion.

I see you already strutted everything so construction-wise there is not much you can do, other then a severe overhaul. What might help is using the mod 'Kerbal Joint Reinforcement': http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/55657

This mod does stiffen connections a bit, but more importantly it applies the forces from going in/out of timewarp more gradually.

Thanks, I guess this is indeed a bug. Closing KSP and loading again eliminated the bug, at least for now.

What do you mean by ETA, TerminalV? I'm guessing you don't mean estimated time of arrival. I do have two claws on this craft. I'm not even sure why! :/

Could I get this thread moved to the support forum? Thanks!
