Game occasionally crashes and corrupts file I was playing on

Recommended Posts

Hi guys. Sorry if this has already been posted and answered a million times, but I'd like to know how to stop it from happening.

My game has crashed a few times during gameplay (building, crashing stuff, etc.) and when I launch it, it won't let me click the 'load' button until I fix it. If I just move the file that got corrupted (the one I was playing when the game crashed) to a separate folder, it solves the problem however this means I lose my builds. While I haven't lost anything I'm really attached to yet I'm pretty terrified that's eventually going to happen. Is there any way to stop this or fix corrupted saves?

Option #1 - Install a mod that makes backups of your KSP .sfs save file. (Either Kerbal Alarm Clock and/or S.A.V.E. mod)

Option #2 - On Win7 or later, it should be creating System Restore Points daily, as a side-effect you can use the Previous Versions tab of the save file to restore a know good copy of your save file.

Option #3 - Use some sort of version control system on your KSP save folder. Or a versioned backup system.
