[obsolete] Wider Contracts App [v1.3.3] [2016-04-28]

I'm also getting FPS drops when using this mod, the FPS drops go away when the Wider contract app is open, but then it begins leaking memory

How significant an FPS drop are we talking? Just curious, as I'm debating whether to do anything at all since this will all get thrown away when Unity 5 comes along...

from 30-50 fps down to 10 or less

It is very significant. Mission Elapsed Time turns yellow because of it, returns to green when the app is open

Yikes, wonder why that's so significant for you... I'll try to take a look... soon-ish. :)

I also have Framerate issues when the app is installed. It drops from about 40 or so down to 15 or less. Very noticeable. I do run several mods, however to isolate which one was causing it I installed one at a time, measured the FR, then uninstalled it.

Very strange, since it doesn't seem to make a difference at all for me. For anyone having the issues, can I get some info about your system? OS, CPU, how much ram, 32 bit vs. 64 bit.

I would expect I'm more on the low end of things, but curious what others that are seeing the issue have.

My rig is quite dated. Q6600 @ 3GHz, 4GB of ram, running 32bit KSP on Windows 7.

Ah yes, that's a fair bit older than mine - which for reference is an AMD Phenom II X6 1050T w/ 12 GB of RAM. 6 cores, and KSP only ever using one. :(

Do you use relatively low graphics settings? Because that's when I was seeing the frame rate problem the most. With higher settings, the frame rate increase was much less noticeable.

But since you said that the code will get thrown out when Unity 5 comes around, which sounds like it'll be with the next KSP version, it makes sense to put a fix on hold if you think it'll take time to work out.

Also: Windows 8, 8GB RAM, Intel Core i5-3230M CPU @ 2.60GHz (3.20GHz auto Turbo Speed), running KSP 32bit

Nope, pretty much maxed out on graphics settings, which makes in interesting since your i5 is significantly faster than my processor. I may get a chance to poke around at this in the next week, but as you said 1.1 is going to pretty much kill this mod (I'm not confident that there will be a way for me to "hook in" once they move to the new GUI system).

Well if your mod will be killed when they go 1.1, then bug them to include your mod (or its features)... Cause this is WAY better than the stock contract display....

Ah, you seem to believe I actually have power over that. ;)

I think I requested it on one of the devnotes threads - but it's doubtful that Mu (who I believe is the one currently working on the GUI stuff) saw it.

I play with linux 64bit and for some reason this mod makes the game completely unplayable, it drops down to 1 FPS. It worked perfectly with 0.90.

Ummm... Please be a troll?

Can you confirm this is with 1.1.4 (there were two releases today)?

I'm also getting FPS issues while using version 1.1.4 of this mod and version 1.0.2 of KSP. I noticed it after my modded .90 install and completely stock 1.0.2 install showed a 30+ FPS increase over my modded 1.0.2 install (with this mod). After about an hour of pulling mods to see which one caused the slowdown, I got to this one. Updating to the newest version helped, but not by a lot.

Output log with only this mod and Squad in the GameData folder is here.

My settings are mostly default, but if you want the settings.cfg, it's here.

Save game where I took the screenshots and got the log file is here .

Screenshots in the Tracking Station with and without the mod with the stock FPS overlay up (click for higher res):

Stock KSP version 1.0.2, no other mods:

Stock KSP version 1.0.2 with Wider Contracts App v1.1.4:

Note that the slowdown is noticeable in other scenes as well and not just the tracking station.

Also note that this is a sandbox save, but it happens with career too.

System specs:

8 GB of RAM

CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 945 @2.99 GHz

GPU: AMD Radeon HD 5450 w/ 512 MB of memory

Windows 7 64 bit

Running KSP 32 bit version 1.0.2

It's a shame that this weird slowdown happens, because I absolutely love this mod and think it should be stock. Without it, it's an incredible hassle to see what contracts you have to do. :(

EDIT: Tried the mod with 1.0.4 and the same thing happens. :(

Well, looks like I'll be plugging away at this one again... thanks for the detailed report, that helps a lot!

New release, blazing fast edition! I was finally able to fully reproduce the slowdowns and now this runs blazing fast! Download now!

Wider Contracts App 1.2.0

  • All performance issues now fixed!

Nope! Just tried it, was in "yellow time" the whole time. Uninstalled it, was in "green time" the whole time, same vehicle test. But I mean, it could just be me, right???

Hard to say, I'd need more info - what's the actual FPS difference, which scene was this in, and is it the same with the contracts app open or closed?

I suspect that the major issues are fixed - but it's possible there's still some problems that are out of my control. Unfortunately, because this mod is either getting thrown away or completely rewritten with the release of KSP 1.1 to the changes made there, I don't have too much enthusiasm for performance fixes that'll only last for a couple more months.
