keybindings for the new "autopilot" functions?

Recommended Posts

Not sure whether this is the right subforum for this but are keybindings for the autopilot functions introduced in 0.90 planned for a future release? It feels a bit odd to have to click on the icons for those while everything else is bound to keys.

If anyone knows, I'd be glad to know

It's a good idea, but a lot of keys on an already very crowded keymap.

So, T turns on SAS, maybe if they did Alt+T to cycle forward to the next option and Ctrl + T to cycle backward to the previous rather than key bindings for each one.

EDIT: Nope, Ctrl is throttle down (duh). Well details details, the idea still holds. Use modifiers, rather than independent keys, to cycle through them. For as few as they are you may not even need a cycle backward anyway.

What about numeric keys on the right part of keyboard?

Cycling this through the available options is not a good idea as your ship will immediately try to reorient itself each time you hit the key. I agree that it should be possible to assign keys to the functions but they just shouldn't be assigned in the default keymap. If you find there are one or two of the options you use regularly then you could assign keys to just those one(s)...

They could fix that with a 1 second delay before taking action after switching modes.

While I'm hesitant to recommend my own mods because it looks like spamming, especially in the Suggestions forum, I am going to do so here as this is exactly why wrote these.

1) Actions Everywhere: This mod adds the autopilot functions you are talking about as actions that can be assigned to an action group. They appear on your control part for that vessel.

2) Action Groups Extended: Gives you more action groups to use so you can assign 1 and Alt-1 to two different action groups and have enough action groups to make this worth while. It actually support two modifier keys so for really complex designs: 1, Alt-1, RightCtrl-1, and Alt-RightCtrl-1 could activate 4 different action groups.

(Links in my sig.)

@Diazo, thanks actually for mentioning your mods :). So the game would trigger these extended action groups after it receives a keypress or combination of keypresses?

Reason I'm asking is my YAKK Mk-1 hardware controller which adds a hell of a lot of buttons bound to "ordinary" key presses from a USB keyboard. So anything that the game recognizes as a keyboard input means I can wire my controller to do it, but I can't make it click a UI element.

@MrOnak: Yes, you can set up any set of keyboard keys to activate an action group. Note however there is no conflict detection, if you bind one of your buttons to Alt-C, I'm not sure if KSP will interpret that as a press of the 'C' key or not (and change your camera view).

Also, the documentation on the Keyset functions, specifically the modifier keys, is out of date. I'll try to get something up in the next few hours that goes over it.
