"some" Kerbals were lost in the making of this movie.... HA HA HA!!! The list was almost as long as the survivors list...

Other than that, thanks a whole heap. Keep up the good work, you are awesome.

:)

Glad you liked it!

I already built my own shuttle, but this one is much better. oh, and mine didn't fly too good, either. actually, it exploded instantly on throttle up. maybe i'll look at this one and learn something.

great video too!

Glad you like the shuttle. I take it that its not exploding for you like others, right?

i guess i will try flying it with the bays open!

- - - Updated - - -

update: manged to get it into sub-orbit i took pictures at parts

i had to leave the hanger bay open the whole way

- - - Updated - - -

2nd flight carriering 7 kerbals 100km obit achieved.

Left the bay doors open the whole away until all tanks were relesed to be safe

Hopefully things can be figured out where flying with bay doors open is not necessary! lol

Thank you, except you posted it in a new thread, not the existing one. Heh.

I discovered a work around. Simply rotate the whole craft prior to launch, 90 degrees so the mk3 cargo bay belly faces north. It's an orientation issue with the mk3 bay somehow. I might republish the STS with this "workaround" for now.

Here is my SAS Heat Bomb demonstrating this effect:

Further testing has allowed me to create this simple SAS Cargo Bay Heat Bomb based on this bug:

Javascript is disabled. View full album

craft file: http://kerbalx.com/inigma/SAS-Heat-Bomb-Bug

The results are obvious. This is an orientation issue (east, west) with the mk3 cargo bay and at least in my test, a SAS unit attached to an attachment point connected to the belly, with the SAS units just at or going over the lip of the top of the cargo bay. The effect causes the mk3 bay to somehow trigger a overheat reaction slightly below the top of the bay targeted at the middle sas unit.

Granted, I don't make craft like this, however when I have a fuel tank attached to the bay loaded with SAS units for my shuttle, it causes explosions. This craft above is just a simplified version showing up the effect in all its simplistic glory. The work around is simply to launch with your craft with mk3 cargo belly facing north or south and not east or west.

Updated reported thread.

Hey inigma I know your busy so I just reminding you about my sub.

Thanks. I've been battling walking pneumonia for the past 4 weeks, dislocated ribs, and overall weakness. Its easy for me to type on a cell phone. Not so easy for me to get on my desktop. I'm getting better. I will get your sub posted ASAP. I did already add it to the STS Hangar though. Right now, I'm putting the finishing touches on the STS-7 that effectively eliminates the explosions and is updated for the new aero. Two test flights so far. looking good.

Oh jeez pneumonia that really sucks. Dont worry about the sub. Getting better is first priority and second comes a shuttle that works. A space laser can wait

any update on the going boom?

Yes! A bug report submitted, and it has been confirmed: http://bugs.kerbalspaceprogram.com/issues/5181

The work around I discovered is simply to reorient the shuttle with the cargo bay belly facing northward for now prior to launch. Insta-fix. Enjoy! I will need to release an STS-7 anyways sometime this weekend though since current 1.0.4 aero severely destabilizes empty bay landings due to the extra wing I put in STS-6 for 1.0.2. So stay tuned for that.

In the meantime, with a new shuttle on the way, you can still fly STS 6 and 6E safely by launching from VAB with belly facing north or south in the editor, and you will avoid all BOOOMS. Just click on the cockpit, hit E to rotate the entire craft 90 degrees, and hit launch, and you have a working shuttle again.

That doesn't sound fun.. Pneumonia sucks. Get better soon.

Despite walking pneumonia...

I present STS-7/E for your KSP 1.0.4 flying pleasure.

Aero update for KSP 1.0.4., and reorientation in VAB fixed per workaround for current cargobay heating bug: http://bugs.kerbalspaceprogram.com/issues/5181

Also I un-edited SRB fuel amounts since 1.0.4 vastly improves SRB efficiency (so much so I also had to thrust limit them, even with the STS Fuel Pod!). No craft file magic with this one. Pure stock!

Enjoy!

OP updated. Flight profile not so much as I am still trying to figure out the best profile, but this thing screams into orbit. Just watch it. Fly it like a spaceplace after ditching boosters (cruise while around 65k) and you will be fine for a debris free orbital insertion.

I love this thing I have looked everywhere for a near exact shuttle and this is a work of art however I am newer to ksp and I cannot get this to fly the shuttle pulls forward and even with jebediah's help and me just holding the s key I can't stop it eventually I lose all control at about 15. That is when I can get it to not destroy its self as soon as it loads on the launcher. I had to add to more supports and that works about half the time. I do find myself lagging considerably which is odd I have two graphics cards 16gb ram and a quad core 4.6ghz processor I have followed the instructions and watched every video I can find on youtube. I have also launched full and empty payloads any help would be amazing tips tricks I am about to try version 5 to see if that cuts the lag but this thing is a beast lol.

Start with the STS 7 not 7E. 7 is easier to control and train on. Start at full throttle and hit your radial SAS to control lift off. The current flight profiles are out of date. I will need to post a new one as well as a video.

OMG. Honestly I haven't tried the ship yet. But I have watched the video like 5 times. AMAZING. Gives me goosebumps, having grown up in the 80's with the shuttle. Saw it launch from Cape Canaveral once.

Thank you so very much I was using the 6E I didn't even notice the 7 or 7E I tried both and the 7 worked amazingly to bad I have a very hard time getting to orbit to begin however now I have this to play with while Mr Manley teaches me to get into orbit better. Thank you soooo much for this I love it and it flys like a dream

I'm probably going to start work on an undated Hubble sub-assembly soon, stay tuned.

Ooh neat!

Glad you liked the video! Fly the STS-7 or STS-7E. You won't be disappointed!

Hey, I have a few ideas still for the emergency stuff, but I am currently unable to access KSP for several months due to school.

Ooh ok. Post it when you get a chance to play again and develop it.

I remember you were talking about making a space station subassembly earlier Inigima. Just wondering if you want any help with that.

Oh I always take subassembly submissions. Oh yea... that reminds me... lol... OP updated.

Yay! It's ooouuuutt! Can't wait to start docking to stations!

Almost eleven iterations - You're becoming Mulbin 2.0! :D

- - - Updated - - -

Which means I'll have to reattach the orbiter for SCA assembly, for the third time.

I hope it works. (I think i have to redo the whole thing from scratch...)

Now that's a compliment! :D

I really hope we get someone dedicated to a mun-rocket again like he was.

Will do! early pics are planned (in my head) to be relatively ugly and unrefined. For that point, it is just idea proving. After that, i would be cleaning up the exterior for final product.

Greetings, fellow Kerbonauts.

Over the past week or so, I have been working on this beauty:

I6M7lfD.png

I like to call her the STS-8 Space Shuttle Enterprise. She is a newly upgraded version of the STS-4, utilizing the new stock parts and fully compatible with 1.0.4.

She is (relatively) easy to fly, land, and dock. She can survive re-entry, can easily reach a 150kmx150km orbit, and best of all; with proper piloting and the use of FMRS, she is 100% recoverable.

Below is an extensively detailed album of my first successful fully recovered flight.

If inigma is interested, I can provide a .craft file for him or her to use, modify, and publish to this thread at their will.

PM me if you are interested.
