Interesting concept, and using a tank for structure is a very KSP thing, we all do it, a 45 or 90 liter tank, probe core on top and 48-7S in bottom, legs, solar, bateries and other stuff mounted on tank just as this probe.

Only issue is that KSP don't allow us to surface mount stuff on the round-8 tank.

Yes, but the lack of surface mount capability is a major downside with the round-8, mostly use it to expand the capability of a 45 liter tank some.
