Why aren't these two docking probes docking?

I'm launching an ion-powered plane and I plan on dropping little refuelers along the way to bump up it's range. However close I can get these 2 docking ports they never seem to click. I have messed with all the variables with landing gears, wheels, etc, I even feel the magnetism, it just doesn't connect.

Any advice?

Hack gravity with F12, that should do it.

Cycle the gear up and down with SAS turned off.

P.S. SAS Off, toggle the landing gears near the aircraft and/or the aircraft's wheels about a bit.

Docking on kerbin is kind of a pain since wheels and legs has suspensions and will move around a lot in 1G. Better have some kind of frames to hold them together, or find some way to squish them around till they are correctly aligned.
