Ramper Platform

Another random thing I thought about... I call this vehicle "The Ramper Platform". It can also be called the Ramper for short...

The idea was to get small planes and spaceplanes off the ground quickly with something like a ski-jump ramp...

Things to know:

-The Ramper has to be close to the plane, but with decent amount of distance... Too much distance could mean your plane may already be going real fast... and colliding with the vehicle instead of ramping off of it...

-This will only work with planes with somewhat narrow landing gear positions, given the width of the ramp.

I'll update this thread when I get the final touches done.

Hi pheeph!

I like your idea!

Maybe you could consider making the ramp more gradual, like real life aircraft ski-jumps.

I know, the picture shows a Harrier on it with excellent short-takeoff capability when fully loaded.

That's not fair...

But the way it is now, when an aircraft hits the ramp, it hits it hard because of the instant angle it's forced to make.

.....Aaaannnnnd here's the update! I added some lights on the sides when it gets dark. I also created a wider variant which will allow planes with a wider landing gear base to ramp off.

I had a similar idea/need but kinda went at it different...

I wanted to get my aircraft off the ground quicker, rather than taking all the runway. That meant angling it upwards but that messed with the gear for landing and made it drag it's tail on the tarmac.

So I thought of fitting a disposable carriage. You taxi for a few meters till you have some lift, then drop the carriage and take off in a fraction of the time.

I once did that with the TV-202 (that ship from the PC game Terminal Velocity) http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/73206-Terminal-Velocity-TV-202-starfighter?highlight=tv-202

This thread is quite old. Please consider starting a new thread rather than reviving this one.
