Awesome!

Also, would it be possible to use the "full" version without SDHI, even without Orion (or replicating it with other parts - from SpaceY and MRS, for example)? One of its dependencies is RealChutes, and I'm not too keen to use it.

I'm thinking about it, actually, the modlist in OP is kinda outdated, since I'm aiming by default for the mod to be compatible with at least HGR (although, I haven't yet touched its engines and fuel tanks, only command an utilities parts), SpaceY (for the "Private companies" branch and Saturn V parts), SXT (pretty much a requirement for Apollo stuff and N-1) and others which can replace each other.

So still nothing for the "Test Pilot"?

Sorry, I've been today being promoted from a user, so I had to take some time to abuse train my new super-powers. :D

Also, I haven't yet requested/welded/modelled enough parts for the mod to work even in minimum configuration and I'm catching some parts misplacement and bugs from the techthree itself. I have so much stuff yet to do (I'm trying to get back to the RSSA story too), so the progress wouldn't be as fast as you may have expected.

Hey,

I m the author of the SETI-BalanceMod (link in signature).

Since my mod starts unmanned, I faced the issue that altitude contracts could only be completed by manned vessels, until making configs for the Contract Configurator mod by nightingale.

I just released replacements for the buggy stock starting contracts, based on the ones I use for the SETI-BalanceMod, for use with other TechTree mods:

Initial Contracts

InitialContracts replaces the buggy/annoying stock starting contracts with 3 similar ones, which can be completed by manned and unmanned craft. Thus the mods contracts are especially useful for TechTrees which start unmanned and may be redistributed with them.

They are based on the SETI-Contracts but more balanced for stock.

InitialContracts Link

The mod Contract Configurator by nightingale is required to use the configs.

These Contract Configurator configs by nightingale and Yemo are based upon the general contracts of the SETI-BalanceMod.

License: You may do what you want (change, expand, mix, redistribute as part of a larger package etc.), as long as you provide the source (eg. SETI-BalanceMod with link) and credit for previous authors (eg. nightingale and Yemo) within the file(s) and at the reference locations (forum thread and download site).

Hence you can just redistribute this file along with eg a tech tree mod under any (even a very restrictive) license as long as you give credit in the form mentioned above.

PS: Added your mod to the "Balance/Tech Tree mods with different foci" section

OK, nice to hear you are now a moderator! Congratulations comrade!

Thanks! It's quite interesting, and, really, a challenging job. :)

Thanks! I've had a few glance over your mod before, it seems cool! I love that style of mod. :)

And thanks for the info about the contracts, they are really a large chunk of work I haven't intended to do, but after much requests I see that I will have to, without it the mod would be unfinished. :)

So, it's basically a realism progression using stockalike mod parts without full overhaul? (correct me if I'm wrong)

Definitely intrigued, will keep an eye on this :)

It's not only realistic progression, it's mostly historical one. :)

Since I'm fan of Science Sandbox, I'd have also a non-contract mechanism to get science from the stations. :)

It's because of that decoupler, actually. I wanted to replicate the 1.5 staging Atlas has, without having to incorporate large mods like FASA as requirements. :)

I built a stock Atlas that's OAAHSTO. (One and a Half Stage to Orbit) But, I do admit, the model looks pretty neat.

From my part little progress was made (half a tier), but komrade SnowWhite has made good progress on Atlas, fixing some issues with the model and started working on the decoupler! :)

Brilliant to see it in-game!

How will the balancing work on the Atlas? I imagine it will be difficult to make it not an SSTO if all that is dropped are the engines.

well, if the engines are heavy and have low isp, it shouldn't be an SSTO.

Well, I haven't made it yet, but it won't be as difficult, since I know what the dV should be like with different payloads. :)

Although I want to say that putting an Explorer to orbit is quite a challenge, since it has no reaction wheels (rotation is you friend).

I've found explorer 1 particularly difficult to re-create in-game without using the parts from .. I think it's SXT .. or maybe FASA .. one of those packs has a decent explorer1 probe core and sargent rocket sets. Without those, I've had difficulty re-creating the mission profile very well. Pesky solids are difficult to work with as an upper stage ;)

FASA. It's FASA.

It's been a while since I posted updates. :)

No screenshots yet, but I almost completed the initial planned tech tree, started some tweaking to make it more playable and friendly to other mods.

For the parts, awesome SnowWhite, Beale and CatDog (it seems he has no account here) are working on Atlas (almost complete), Redstone, Titan launchers and several of Luna probes. :)

All of the mod's parts will be released separately by SnowWhite with his own parts for modularity's sake.

Any help with this mod would be VERY welcome. It's a big one, guys. :)

If you want or need some assistance with the "writing" side of things I'm happy to help out with that. I can't model or texture to save my life but I can write and edit part configs and come up with the "fluff" for part and node descriptions.

In other words, I can do the easy bits :P Not sure how helpful that is but let me know if that would be helpful!

The most important thing might be balancing node and parts costs, contract rewards and career-related stuff. Until now there isn't pretty much to show, there are lots of parts to be done yet. Titan is next on the list and has its model done. Redstone is somewhere in the production too, alongside with some Luna probes. So, after I finish initial balancing I'll be releasing a pre-pre-pre-alpha with lots of "placeholder" rescaled/welded parts. I hope to do it in the next couple of weeks, so that it won't turn into one of those mods that never reach readiness. :)

I asked this in the Atlas/Centaur thread but do you guys plan on working together though the entire atlas series like the copper color tank and the RD-180s. That would be really really cool and would meld well with the progression you are planning. Also gives you the opportunity to work on small srbs.
